I have a question and its probably the most important for this entire thread.
I know Obama wants to push for more community and civic involvement much like Kennedy did but has Obama actually said he agreed with the idea of mandatory programs like this?
I mean this guy can believe in what ever he wants in the end he has no policy making power.
Nope, he is all for what you said just like Kennedy wanted to push for. He is all for making them attractive options and I believe it includes 4-5k grant for a certain amount of community service (americorps) or reallllyyyyyyy nice incentives for peace corp volunteers.
Maybe 3 months of basic training after high school would trim down the massively obese population a little bit. Healthcare wouldn’t be such a problem if people knew how to exercise and eat healthily and properly, AND had the motivation to do it.
But america is full of fast food fatasses that would rather just soak in the government benefits for being “disabled” as opposed to do something to better themselves.

No its not pretty obvious where he stands on the issue. He is calling for people to get involved in their community, that serving this country does not just include the military.
A person who has seen the power of community organization is trying to push that mentality on the nation as a whole.
So no these videos do not make it obvious that he is trying to force it on people.
But as a leader in the US he is calling on all americans to do more for their community. Sorry but that sounds more like Kennedy to me not Mao.

Rahm Emanuel is the son of an Israeli immigrant. In Israel, service in the IDF is mandatory for men and woman. Rahm himself even served voluntarily with the IDF even though he is a US citizen. So dont be surprised he wants to institute Israeli policy in the US. But dont worry…there are enough self serving capitalists in Washington to prevent this from ever happening here.
Did you read the entire first post? Having people do a few months for hurricane cleanup or habitat for humanity is completely different than what you are talking about.
To me it attaches onto “education” rather than with military service. If education grades 1-8 are mandatory in this country then why not continue that education 3-6 more months to give people on the job education in a way that helps out other Americans.
And again, this is not the policy of Obama, rather its just something Emanuel believes in.
They just both believe that citizens should be doing more for thier fellow man.

In every video or quote I have seen of Obama talking about this idea, he mentions military service first. I would bet if a policy were to be laid out before law makers it would recommend mandatory military service. In which case they certainly don’t have to offer anything in terms of additional compensation.
