Oblivion problems?

Okay, I dunno if anyone still plays oblivion or not…

But anyway, I just reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled windows xp, did all the windows updates, and then tried to install and play oblivion.

Literally the ONLY things installed on this computer are Windows XP, firefox, and oblivion.

I updated to the latest version, and every time I try to play, it crashes to the desktop with a windows “this program has stopped working” window, just after the Bethesda movie finishes up playing.

Computer specs:

3.2 Ghz P4
3 GB of ram
nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 512 (the G92 processor one)
WD 10000 RPM HD
Asus Mobo…running the integrated sound.

I double checked and updated all my drivers…still hanging.

Any ideas?

i remember way back when that it could be video driver related. Try a different video driver…

Nvidia uses the same driver for practically all its video cards. I doubt its the driver.

sounds like a gunked up install to me. or maybe the latest update was a piece of shit

Oblivion was always very peculiar in what drivers would work and what would not. 8800’s in particular have alot of problems. In addition, the driver choice probably varies based on whether or not you use HDR and/or AA.

Good luck - I never did get my choices narrowed down to a single stable driver with my 8800GT. I got frustrated and gave up.

Tried re-installing it several times…always the same. I also tried running it without the update, and got the same thing.

Does anyone have a good source for alternative Nvidia drivers?
