occasional power loss from 2k to 3k *SOLVED*

im getting a strange powerloss at 2 to 3k rpms in 1 to 3rd gear. when i say powerloss i mean it will stop accelerating. it has been happening intermittantly and is starting to do so more often. the car has new plugs and fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, maf sensor, did seafoam and switched to synthetic. shortly after it has developed this problem. anyone know what it could be? right now im thinking maybe the oil from cleaning the k&n has fouled the maf. im going to check that tomorrow.

So it will be like RRRRrrrRRRRRRRRRR swithch and the same thing up untill 4th? Mine use to do that but went away after a month or 2. I thought bad gas.

it will be going normal then as soon as i hit 2k the car stops accelerating but the rpm continues to climb normaly until i hit 3k then everything is fine, until it repeats in the next gear. this is my second tank of gas since its been doing it

No idea. Thats pritty messed up. So you car practily costs in between 2-3k? Its like your missing some grears. Dose it make any noise when it cuts out and then when it goes back in?

it actually feels like pressing the brakes and trying to accelerate at the same time. as soon as 2k hits it stop accelerating and i jerk forward in my seat a bit then it resumes accelerating at just under 3k, or 2700rpm. what makes it even more weird is that it doesnt do it everytime. i just went and checked my maf and it looks like some of the red oil from the filter is on it. or is the maf supposed to have some red on it? anyway i cleaned it with some cleaner that says its safe for mafs. drove the car and problem is still there, but now i have noticed my car is not idling properly, as soon as i put the clutch in my revs die to about 500 then fluctuate before going back to 750.

It’s kind of weird because the you said the RPM’s continue to climb but the car is not accelerating, So the engines is doing it’s job put something is preventing the power transfer from the engine to the wheels. Check your transmission cluth assembly.

i got a tip from someone that it could be the EGR system. so i just went out and disconnected the little vaccum line from the BPT valve to the EGR valve and plugged the line. voila problem gone. so i guess its the EGR system thats not working properly. what do i need to replce to properly fix this as what im doing now is illegal isnt it?

Replace the EGR

mines been doing that since i cut the EGR tube off the manifold…i plugged the intake side of the egr tube at the firewall but i havent disconnected the vacum line and i have the same problem

what i dont understand is how it only happens at certain RPM i thought EGR was sensative to vacum…could you take a pic i need to see this line and plug it or maybe plug / cancel the EGR altogether

well like i said the problem went away when i disconnect the vaccum line to the bpt valve. but what a proper fix would be we will never know as you have my motor :lol:

^^^ I’m looking yet I don’t see anywhere whre it says anything about it being a DOHC?

Are you kidding me. Jantos. what motor was in his car last summer at the niagara meet? You know he has an SR now…do the math. that post was last summer, what motor was in his car. :shock:
