So I got the Ocean’s Box set for Christmas in HD DVD (boo!). Ocean’s 11 and 12 are in not as good of quality as 13. 13 is fantastic but this brings to light a concern I have with the Xbox 360 HD player.
Plain and simple, it’s not as good as the Blu Ray drive in Sony’s PS3. Shit, DirecTV’s movies in 1080i blow away my 360 as far as quality and the 360 is in 1080p.
The box set is great if you like the Ocean’s trilogy but only 13 is worth it in HD.
I love the Ocean’s movies. Nothing can make these bad. The movies are so good that you hate your 360 for not doing them justice.
11 aws a fantastic remake.
12 was too much modern hollywood and that detracted from the story.
13 was pretty good, and thankfully the acting ability was able to make up for the plot.
To the credit of O-11 and O-12, they appear to be upscaled rather than true HD movies.

The only BD movie I have watched on the PS3 is Blazing Saddles and that was impressive considering it’s age.
Now, if I can barrow Itagaki’s Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13 on BD and compare, I expect it to look better. BUT, here are the following reasons why it might not (pure speculation).
The FREE movies that Sony has given away as part of the rebate thing are “outstanding” as far as them revitalizing them so they are all going to look great on BD
The 360’s HD capabilities were/are an afterthought and it was crappily done.
My set and the 360 do not get along as far as HD movies go.
The strange thing is, 300 on HD-DVD exhibited the same anomolies that Ocean’s 12 did when I watched it.
Once I see, the Ocean’s box set, I will let you know.
