That or shorten the season because I’m tired of seeing the playoffs on slushy ice because it’s 90 degrees and the hosting team can’t keep water frozen. I’d much rather see crappy ice to start the season than to end it.

Dont get me wrong, I love the guy (its buffalo, who dosent) but I just hope this dosent turn into another Vanek thing. $5 mill a season is a lot of clams for what I would call another unproven player.
There are a lot of great NHL players who signed $5mill a year deals last year or this year. Names that I feel are much bigger than Pominville. But he still is a great player no matter how you cut it. I just really hope he plays to the level we feel he can.
Vanek still might earn the money… he’s a crease gun. when you don’t have the drury and briere that can keep others off of vanek. Its tough to do shit when he double teamed or overly emphasized.
He still did well on the PP IIRC last year
i just want to see consistent lines this year from game to game.
last year the lines were changed up almost every game and i can imagine it’d be impossible to really form any chemistry with your linemates when you only have one game with them before you’re tossed with somebody else…
i’m no pro at the game, but i’ve played in my day and always found it easier/more enjoyable when i had time to develop a relationship on the ice with the same teammates over time…
Just wondering, but which players are you talking about? Vanek’s contract is also way, way more than Poms. 7.1 cap hit compared to 5.3; that’s a lot. Keep in mind too that Pominville doesn’t make that money until NEXT season- he’s only getting 1.3 million this year and his cap hit is only 1mil and some change.
And as for him being unproven, I have to ask, what do mean by that? The dude was called up from rochester to fill a roster spot, instantly became a threat on the penalty kill and eventually put Ottawa away in the 06 playoffs with a short-handed goal, scored over 30 goals in his rookie season, put up 80 pts last season, plays in every situation on the ice, is a fan favorite in Buffalo, will most likely be named Sabres captain this year, and the list goes on and on. 5 million/season in the nhl for a guy like Poms is PERFECT.
Remember, too, we now have the core group of guys on the team that won the ahl’s presidents trophy in 04-05 during the lockout season. That was an ahl year with some crazy good talent in it, like Spezza, for example.

For the first time that I can remember I’m not pissed off at the Sabres for off-season moves.
Yeah I guess those are great points, if not even for the quality player he is, but for marketing reasons, he is a solid investment. The thing is I dont expect him to grow this year. I feel like he needs to be playing with better playes. Dont get me wrong, we have a very talented crew this year, but they are still very young) If he had one more year on the ice with Briere or Drury, I feel he would have blasted off into being a superstar, but for now he is just a star in my eyes and I dont know if he will ever be able to grow past that.
