OFFICIAL '08-'09 BUFFALO SABRES SEASON THREAD

The real question is who will end up with more points this year The Leafs or The Sabres.

toss in the Sens there too

Buffalo. The Sabres suck, but at least there is still skill there. Even a moron can drive a Ferrari faster than than an average guy in a Yugo.

get rid of lydman and tallinder…bring up weber, spend the money for boumeester, get rid of jochen, bring up mancari

it will never happen, but i can dream :nerd:

I fucking can’t stand when Lindy calls him Pommers, Lindy really pisses me off

Lindy is done. his time in Buffalo is over. Its time the organization moves on to someone better.

Such as?

Guy Carbonneau is looking for a job. He’d be at the top of my list of people to talk to.

While he would definitely be top of the lists it’s not like he doesn’t suffer from the same issues as ruff. Coaching a team full of talent yet falls flat come crunch time at the end of the season/playoffs. I don’t think just replacing Ruff is the answer, the team as a whole needs issues addressed. Here is to hoping they do address their shortcomings :roflpicard:

i doubt lindy will go… and i dont think guy will fit in well with the fan base here…

i dont see this as a coaching issue, i see it as a player/personel issue

I see it as
-Lindy’s style is solid, but has worn out its welcome here. They don’t get any signs of life out of it any more
-The team is still built for 3 years ago, they’re too small for the style played today. Their guys are either talented or physical. They need some guys that are both. Too many Mairs and Connollys.
-Too many stars left and were replaced with AHL scrubs. Darcy’s fault for botching extensions and letting his guys hit the open market.
-Ownership is too cheap to spend to the cap on worthwhile investments
-Darcy would rather sit on his hands and fight a losing battle for 8th place than make moves and risk changing things up.

I can’t believe all the talk about blaming Lindy.

You can’t polish a turd…he does NOT have enuogh talent on this team to win consistently, it’s amazing that he’s been able to do as much as he has over the years with the talent, or lack thereof, that he’s been given to work with…

He’s accomplished more for this franchise than just about any coach in Sabres history…Lindy is not to blame. How many Eastern Conference finals did he get us to, and the Stanley Cup finals…and a President’s Trophy…before Lindy, when was the last time this team did any of that, and all within such a short span of time?

Montreal fell apart the year they were the favorite for the cup because the ownership made that bonehead move and traded Huet to the Caps for a draft pick, putting all the weight of the Cup on the shoulders of untested 19 year old Price. As I predicted, Price cracked like humpty dumpty. With a quality starting goalie like Huet as a backup Montreal probably wins the cup that year.

I don’t buy the “there isn’t enough talent on the team” thing either. We lose against below 500 teams way too much, and win against top 5 teams too much. The Sabres lack effort, motivation and consistency. Those are all things that come from good coaching.

Our power play and penalty kill are #7 and #8 in the whole LEAGUE, respectively. What do you know, those are the times when the players are listening to the coaching of someone other than Ruff. 5 on 5, when Lindy is in charge, we’re horrible.

I liked Lindy before. But I have to agree, the Sabres choke far too often agains’t crappy bottom of the barrel teams yet win the games against the best in the league.

Sounds similar to the gripes/problems people have with the sabre’s management to me. :gotme: I’m not saying a coaching change isn’t needed/warranted but to simply change the coach and call it done isn’t going to turn us into a championship team.

Would I like to see a Drury or Briere brought in to fill the void of them leaving? Sure. But you can’t tell for sure what this team really needs when your existing talent is being coached poorly.

Couldn’t agree more.

I’ve been on the lindy bandwagon for a long time but it’s time for him to go. This team has talent and it shows when they play a top 3 team (boston has yet to beat us) but we lose to the bottom teams consistantly (atlanta, ottowa).

We need some sort of mix up to get these guys motivated. I bet with a new coach (I have no idea who) we’d make the playoffs. Hell, if you got rid of lindy a month ago we’d be sitting in 5th or 6th spot right now.

My thoughts are Lindy has another year left on his contract(I don’t see the Sabres throwing money away to get someone else in there and ending his contract early)…After next season he will be up working in the Hockey dept and they will have a new coach…

:picard: Yes they have

There are problems with this team that are an issue regardless of who is the coach. Is Hank " Let me shoot that over the glass I need the 2 minute break" Tallinder a product of bad coaching, or a player who just doesn’t get it anymore?

I suppose that’s what I get for not looking something up…not sure what I was thinking.

Even so we’re 3 for 5 against them on the year so far…compared to teams like Atlanta who we can’t seem to beat.
