OFFICIAL '08-'09 BUFFALO SABRES SEASON THREAD

I thought his reaction seemed pretty par for having your thumb chomped down on. Too bad he didn’t composed himself longer to give ruutu more than just that one shot immediately following.

prolly bit really hard lmao. but him getting a penalty is just retarded.

What a great game to go to. We got to the arena a couple hours early, and we stood outside eating pizza and drinking beer until we went in. we almost downed a 30pack between 3 people in about 90 minutes at most lol. Barely sat down and it was already 1-0… could tell it was gonna be a good game then

Ruutu summoned for NHL hearing

Ottawa’s Jarkko Ruutu has been asked by the League to explain his actions in Tuesday night’s loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Buffalo’s Andrew Peters alleged that Ruutu bit his gloved thumb, breaking the skin’s surface, during a first period altercation.

“It’s a pretty goofy thing that happened,” said Peters, who had a bandage wrapped around his right thumb after the game. “It’s not the injury, it’s the incident.”

Ruutu was summoned for a hearing – over the phone – with NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell to give his side of the story. The hearing was held at 11:30 a.m. ET

After the game, a 4-2 loss for Ottawa to their bitter Northeast Division rival, Ruutu denied any wrongdoing, and he was not penalized on the play.

“Nothing happened there,” Ruutu said. “His fingers were by my mouth, but I didn’t bite him.”

According to replays of the incident, the skirmish started with Peters rubbing his glove in Ruutu’s face as the play moved up ice. Then, Ruutu used his mouth to remove Peters’ glove from his hand. Peters immediately retreated to the Buffalo bench, holding his thumb, as trainers tended to his thumb.

Peters was assessed a minor for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play by the refereeing tandem of Mike Hasenfratz and Frederick L’Ecuyer.

Stay tuned for NHL.com for all the details as they become available.

Every comment about this incident thus far has been RETARDED.

if someone shoves a finger unwantedly into your mouth the first thing you do is bite them. Peters is lucky Ruutu didnt pound his non fighting ass into a pulp after the fact.

Peters is hands down the worst player in the nhl, and has already been called the worst fighter.

:picard: please die.

LOL

yes, because Ruutu is a fighter :picard:

is there a way to ban JK from this thread? That should happen asap

welcome to long time ago, :noob:

anyone starting to get the feeling that JustKarter doesn’t care much for andrew peters?

LOL

Ottawa’s Ruutu suspended two games

Ottawa’s Jarkko Ruutu has been suspended for two games by the NHL for a biting incident that occurred in Tuesday night’s loss to Buffalo.

Ruutu was suspended after a Wednesday morning’s disciplinary hearing with NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell, a phone conversation between the two parties that began at 11:30 a.m.

In Tuesday’s incident, Ruutu bit the gloved thumb of Buffalo’s Andrew Peters, breaking the skin’s surface, during a first-period altercation at the 13:13 mark.

Ruutu will miss Thursday’s game against Boston, the Northeast Division leader, and Saturday’s home game against the New York Rangers. He is eligible to return Jan. 13 against Carolina

It is the second time this season that Ruutu has been suspended this season. On Nov. 12, Ruutu earned a two-game ban for an elbow he delivered to the head of Montreal’s Maxim Lapierre in a Nov. 11 game.

Ruutu now is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits $31,707.32 in salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (186). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

well they are in competition for worthlessness that is why. Right now Peters is winning, but karter is a close second

2 only? and he should get a muzzle as well lol.

lol he should be forced to wear a full cage

Ruff said he’ll keep his top three lines together tonight against the New York Rangers so as not to disrupt a lineup with three straight wins. Tim Connolly, who will be playing his first game since Nov. 14 after recovering from a broken rib, will thus be worked in on the fourth line and special teams.

That means Vanek will stay with Derek Roy and Drew Stafford. Matt Ellis will remain with Jason Pominville and Paul Gaustad, and Adam Mair will continue to center Jochen Hecht and Ales Kotalik.

Connolly will thus center two of the following three: Peters, Clarke MacArthur and Daniel Paille. The odd man out will join the injured Maxim Afinogenov and Patrick Kaleta as scratches.

Ruff said no decision has been made about his lineup on defense, where the Sabres now have eight healthy bodies with the return of Craig Rivet (shoulder) and Toni Lydman (flu). Rookie Chris Butler, who has played well in his first NHL stint, could be heading back to Portland of the AHL.

I really like Butler. Wish they could keep him up.

true.

but im sure he will be back soon enough…cause this team cannot go one week without a new injury to someone.

and bets on how long connolly will be healthy?? lol

lol, seeing we have back to back games…my guess is he’s out after this weekend
