OFFICIAL '12-'13 BUFFALO SABRES SEASON THREAD

Im with you on this…

Not only will people say this but its sort of true. The current NHL is like an endurance race with a sprint at the end. This season is pretty much going to be a straight sprint. Its not hockey as we know it in the current era. I would gladly welcome a win and wed have fun with it, but I rather not have the asterisk.

Have you seen the internet lately? lol

Yeah but the internet is full of stupid people. Would there be people having a period over a shortened season…yeah. Does it make sense…not really.

I really haven’t heard people complaining about the heat winning the title in the NBA and that was a shortened season.

This season means nothing to me except for the fact that come July 1st, there will be an actual “free agent frenzy” and not some “one really marquee player that 12 teams are going to overpay for” like it has been for years.

It’s also our last season watching Leino in a Sabres uniform. The best thing about this lockout is the two free amnesty buyouts that teams recieved.

We’ll see how Lame-o does. Can’t do any worse than last year. But your right. Unless he puts up a goal a game, he’ll be gone.

That’s because basketball sucks and nobody watches it.

At this point I don’t really think we can be picky. I don’t care if it’s a 10 game season, I would love to see the cup in Buffalo.

God I hope soo. I think your right I cant see us buying anyone out before his terrible ass.

amen to that.

What about Vanek? He makes only about 1 million less than Crosby with not nearly the skill. He’s got 1 year left IIRC. I could see Leino getting bought out though.

You realize, that he makes “only” $1,000,000, less than Crosby, because he took a discount to stay in Pittsburgh, right? If Crosby commanded it, he could get the max ~$12.5/year.

Hahaha. You’d trade Vanek before buying him out. Vanek is a very, very serviceable player. Probably one of the best at what he does, which is presence in front of the net. Streaky, yes. But very serviceable. You’re not going to sign someone with his talent, for less.

I’m not really sure that most “casual” NHL fans. I.E. - Sabres fans, understand how the world works.

Hey I like Vanek, he’s probably got the best hand-eye coordination in the league and some of the best hands. But…he is streaky, doesn’t really have a defensive game, and isn’t all that great on the forecheck. That being said, I’d agree that you would probably trade first, and I was mearly giving a “what-if” for a potential second buyout.

I’m very interested to see how the D shapes up. Haven’t heard anything about Myers ankle injury, also heard something about Brennan needing to be up here due to waivers or contracts or something. We’ll see how they utilize John Scott, and what will happen to Luke Adam?

I would love nothing more than to see vanek gone, I think he is a lazy player that takes terrible penalties because of it

John Scott is a throw away player who plays 25% of the games in a season. He’s actually pretty terrible. Chicago who was one of the least tough teams in the league outside of Ben Eager, didnt even want him around.

I guess it’s more of a mental toughness thing. Meh.

As for Luke Adam, hell probably mull around the AHL because The Sabres have one of the worst development programs around. Guys like Myers and Ennis should be tearing it up. Myers should be a BEAST. His first year, he was successful because nobody knew how to gauge him. Was he going to be like a Chara or was he going to be as soft as Sekera? The opposition didnt go hard into the boards with him and he moved the puck. After everyone realized he was softer than he should be, they used it to their advantage in his sophomore year. Dude needs to get tough.

Couldn’t agree more. I did like Adam though, not sure what happened looked like he lost his confidence out there.

48 regular season games are enough. The games will actually mean a little more. When you can go 82-0 and then 3-4 against a .500 team and you’re out in the first round, those regular season games are all but meaningless.

I’d love to see every season be about this many games, then stagger the playoffs as a best of 3, best of 5, then best of 7 final. Hockey would be more about building a skilled team and less about building a bunch of mules that you can grind for 100+ games.

Leafs fired Brian Burke…Holy shit.

years too late…

Now, they’re keeping him on as a Senior advisor…so it’s like he never left.
