OFFICIAL '12-'13 BUFFALO SABRES SEASON THREAD

Honestly, I do feel bad for the guy. With that being said, this is business…GTFO!

How I currently feel about this team:

"Time - Phrase
00:52:03 We lost a few games, tough! That was District Five.

00:52:06 - Now we’re the Ducks. - Yeah.

00:52:09 - And the Ducks… are undefeated. - All right! Yeah!

00:52:13 Quack, quack.

00:52:16 - Quack. Quack. - Quack! Quack!"

The whole team needs a lot of work. Coach is one thing, but the coach isnt playing the game, these are pros we are talking about… they should no positioning and basic hockey skills. I went to last nights game and boy let me tell you… all around shitting the bed. Poor passing, horrible break outs, horrible give aways, horrible picking up the extra man/guy in front of the net. The first goal was everyone but Millers fault for those on the ice. Both defense left the front of the net, the offense dropped down to cover, but next picked up a guy. They also just left the defense on there team wide open as well… so 3 guys were wide open above the net while we had 5 guys below the hashmarks… puck came free, the second defenseman wasnt there, and the offense who was apparently covering for him, actually didnt pick a guy up. These are basic skills in hockey that you are taught all your life playing.

We do need a change though with the coaching, no questions asked. The voice is getting old and needing a freshening to get guys to listen do be stern about what needs to be done. Someone new means they are not buddy buddy with any particular player on the team.

I feel like I needed to quote you multiple times

Bottom line is we have ZERO talent needed to make a complete and competitive team. You can’t just shit can the players, so in order to signal a changing of the guards…the coach goes. We also waived McCormick which is a start in the right direction. Now get a real legitimate center and a solid #1 defensive pairing and you’re on the right track. Oh and stop playing John Scott 7 minutes a game…He’s fucking atrocious.

Hopefully Miller is next.

^ I’m not with you on saying we have zero talent. I’d like to see what a new coach can do with the guys we have.

When guys like Scott are getting 7 minutes a game it’s pretty clear your coach has no idea what he’s doing anymore.

Bing!!!

I’m just going to Copy and past what I said somewhere else. I quickly typed this:

The whole team needs an overhaul. I went to last nights game and wish I didnt waste my damn time. Defense playing like shit, offense playing like shit, I’ll give credit to Miller for the stops he made… but holy shit, what a lazy, half assed, no talent game.

1st goal, defense both dropped below the line leaving the front of the net open. Offense decided to push down to cover that spot but failed to pick a man up. So we ended up with 5 guys below the hashmarks. Also leaving the other teams defense wide open as well with a clear lane to shoot if they got it. Puck came out, guy got it… bam goal. No one picked up the open man in front. Several people to blame.

How about all the damn turn overs. Both offense and Defense. One, you cant just throw the puck blind when you are in there zone thinking someone is there to catch it, it doesnt always work. Also getting out of the zone, because you hear footsteps, doesnt mean toss the puck up.

defense trying to jam it up the same side thats not working on the break out, stop forcing the play. or being the last man back with the puck, you cant make a cross ice pass with a guy coming between you and you arent following the pass to protect it, yet skate away… thats dumb.

Or the 3 man weave, what ever happened to following your pass in the weave when making the pass. You dont make the pass and skate away from it… thats how turn overs happen and with noone there to recover the puck when a pass isnt done right or caught right.

Then we have miller, last night was ok…other days, He goes down on every single shot… gives up way to many rebounds, and the “big saves” he has usually are saves that if he didnt make, are going wide anyways or just hit him in the chest where he would have gone just by going down anyways. Hes over rated and its annoying with all the hype about him. If he didnt give up so many rebounds with the team we have, he would be a fantastic goalie. Problem is all around you cant have that style of play with our group of players.

Then we have Lindy, lets move on and try something new please. How many more years do we want to give this guy. Nothing personal to the man and what a great job he did for many of the years, but enough is enough and lets try new!

So thats what I think. Cant say I left anyone out on the team to give shit about…so no one way street on who to point fingers at.

We don’t have a solid center. That, other than a goalie on a hot streak is your most important position. We have three really good third line centers. Defensively we aren’t horrible, but then again… we’re relying on players who have either passed their prime (Regher), had their value inflated (Erhoff) and are un-proven (Myers). Why Brennan doesn’t get more ice time, blows my mind.

Miller is a head case.

Vanek is streaky at best. He started out last year hot as hell too. He will finish the season with less than 50 points (which isn’t bad in a truncated season, but when you were on a 100+ point pace for 25% of the season, its atrocious).

Every team who is going to make the playoffs has a true #1 elite #1 center. Hell, some of them have two. Pittsburgh has the two best centers in the game on their team.

Agreed, I don’t think the Sabres are terrible. I think Playing John Scott 7 minutes a game was Ruff’s explanation of “I am pretty much out of ideas”

I will miss Lindy, not only as a member of the Sabres but the community as well. He’s a terrific guy, coach, and was a pretty good player. It’s time for him to move on but it’s bittersweet for me. I’d like to shake his hand and say thanks.

Miller is always good for a soft goal. Cup Champs don’t have goalies like that.

Boston had an elite Center?

Yes. One who’s not only one of the best play making centers in the game, but is probably the best defensive center in the league.

If you don’t consider Patrice Bergeron an elite center, you’re opinion on hockey should never be taken seriously.

I think a caller on WGR said it the best… im glad hes gone so I can start liking him again.

Buffalo will always remember Lindy for his great play and a few really good coaching runs but this was a long time coming. He obviously needed to go. I also think we have a lot of good pieces here that just need a new set of eyes. Maybe some new roles or line parings, or even a whole systematic revamp will breathe some life into these guys.

I would say quite the opposite. Bergeron is a good player not elite.

and *your

Next move I’d like to see is make a play for Ryan O’Reilly. They have enough young D prospects to make it happen.

So who is the new coach? Michael Peca?

Ron Rolston most likely from Rochester.

No. Marty St. Louis, is very good. David Perron is very good. James Neal is very good.

What do you consider elite? Someone who puts up 100 pts but has a -15 +/-?

Oh someone who puts up 70 pts, wins 60% of his faceoffs, has a plus minus the past 2 years a combined 52+, is a member of the triple-gold club and has a Selke to prove it.

My thoughts on Miller are this. You can’t say he is good or bad this year because after seeing his interview last night, it was clear he wanted Ruff gone.
