Vanek’s going to Minnesota in the summer anyways. Moulson won’t produce without JT. Miller will be moved shortly. Like, very shortly.

That’s the only way to build a team, let alone rebuild one. In the cap era, you can’t trade for and sign a championship team anymore. Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, LA, Anaheim etc…
This trade also depends on where the Islanders finish in regards to the first round pick, so obviously Darcy is hoping they finish towards the bottom of the league.
Doesn’t really matter at this point. As of right now Sabres (in theory) will draft 1 overall. Obviously a higher pick is better (in theory), but we have a stockpile to work with.
Well yeah, what I meant is that they are hoping to get 2 right in the top 10. Also, from what I have heard, dealing Miller isn’t going to be very easy. What does Miller bring in? Same as Vanek? 2 1st rounders?
You’re not going to want a goalie in return for Miller. Enroth is more than capable and Hackett is more than serviceable for a rebuild. My guess, is you trade him to Western Conference team for a 1st and a D prospect. Someone with a stockpile of young talent (EDM, ANA). If you trade him in the East, you keep him out of our division. PIT would be an awesome fit seeing as Voukoun is out for a while and they have a prospect pool worth taking advantage of. Cap space is going to be the biggest issue. Not many teams that would want Miller, can afford him. I’d like to see a straight up trade (Miller for PITS Defense Derrick Pouliot). Won’t happen though with a 33 year old Miller who’s UFA in 2014.
Realistically it’s going to be the same return for Miller as you got for Vanek. A conditional first, a 2nd and either a prospect or a bottom pairing D man.
For discussions sake now, not based on team end results, but purely individual performance, did Vanek live up to his contract here?
Im going to say yes based on who he had around him but at the end of the day, Edmontons 3248302983 first and second overall draft picks would have probably done us much better in the long run.
Tough to say. Does Vanek make EDM a better team? Does Buffalo suck without Vanek? Would we have a bigger talent pool? Sure. However, Darcy can’t draft/develop and Taylor Hall would be playing on the 3rd line in Rochester.
I mean, I don’t wear jerseys. I wouldn’t wear one if someone paid me. I’m not going to judge people that do, but who cares if they get a name plate change, especially if it’s free? It’s definitely a lot better than being one of those people wearing a Zhitnik jersey or a Briere jersey…
Cause as of right now you’re replacing Vanek with Moulson on your jersey…Who’s the better 26 honestly? Also as of right now Moulson will be on the team for what another 70ish games at most and more than likely even less.
Right now, Moulson is the best #26 on the team. Your logic is flawed, Vanek is never coming back…so why wear his jersey? It’s a gesture of good faith, the team could say “screw off” and make $$$ off Moulson jerseys.
I would wear a 26 Moulson jersey. I hate Vanek. Always have, always will. He was always like “Oh, I’m so good that you will never see 100% on the ice, my teammates around me aren’t as good as me”, he never celebrated after goals with the other guys…I hated the day he was named captain. I felt like they gave it to him because “he was due for it” due to his veteran status. I know he was good and scored goals, but he was not legendary. He never led us to the cup and he never was a fan favorite.
I understand where he is coming from, as most European players have a “me first” attitude. It’s not their fault, it’s just how they are raised and their culture. Not many European captains in the league and the ones that are, aren’t very vocal and don’t seem to hold others accountable. I don’t really see Ovechkin as being the biggest leader in the room…hell, they probably can’t understand him.
I agree that Vanek was probably not the biggest leader and voice in the room. However, he was one of the best pure goal scorers we’ve ever had. He’s probably the best “front of the net” guy in the league.
I respect him as a player and don’t deny he is a great goal scorer, just don’t like him as a captain. I noticed a lot of people are relieved to have the trade over with. Time to trade Miller, move on and focus on rebuilding instead of all the trade talking shenanigans.
I’m not hoping Vanek comes back, I wouldn’t be holding on to precious TV memories. But why would you switch the nameplate on a jersey from one of arguably the best sabres to play, as you said a good goal scorer, for Matt Moulson who puts up decent numbers and goals but will likely be moved before the end of the season? Forget the fact that it’s free, why would you do that? I think for the most part Vanek was a pretty well liked player. May not have been captain material be he is a very skilled player.
Hypothetically speaking…I’d rather have a Yakupov jersey than a Pronger Oilers jersey. I’d rather have a Clowe jersey than a Parise Devils jersey. I’d rather have a Gaborik Columbus jersey than a Nash one… etc.
Realistically though, I’d never buy any jersey. So I guess this isn’t a problem for me.
It depends on how big of a fan the player is I guess. If they just bought the jersey for something to wear to the game then of course they want it to be current. Of course I would question that fan in situation like that. If they were a die-hard vanek fan then there is no reason to change it. I have my Gaustad jersey still and would never change the name-plate on it. I did just buy a Foligno jersey this year and although I’m a fan of his, if he left the team tomorrow I would take the sabres up on the name change. Yes, I realize Vanek and Foligno are on totally different levels with this organization.
