Nope, using it as a Google Voice home phone on WiFi only. It would be nice to have a local Raleigh phone number lol.
S3 is ordered, called ATT back now that the S3 is officially released. Easiest 10 min call Ive ever had with them.
I’m still on an original Samsung Galaxy S, running gingerbread. this thread reminded me to see if anyone has hacked ICS for this phone yet…off I go lol.
Isn’t the Galaxy S slated to get Jelly Bean (eventually)?
Like, the original phone from a few years ago? I doubt it.
My GS3 is out for delivery. :ohyeah:
probably not, at least not on Sprint…they seem to only do one update per phone then make it obsolete.
There’s a guy already building a jellybean rom for root users, he made a “proof of concept” rom with really basic functions but it’s not ready for beta usage yet. Once it is I’m DEF flashing jellybean
Edit: flashing to ICS as we speak lol
I’m loving my gs3 and once a new smooth/good battery/everything works rom comes out… and is tested, I’ll flash to it
Thus far, i love this phone.
UGH, ICS is soooooooo much smoother than gingerbread. I also just found out that my stock battery is rated at 1500mah, but the epic touch battery is 1800mah and fits…might have to check amazon for a genuine Samsung epic touch battery to squeez a little extra battery life out of the phone…
Do yourself a favor and pre-order from best buy. They most likely have a white one in stock and you just pick it up for $50 cheaper than AT&T when you price match to radio shack.

And make sure if you’re going too root to follow the sticky to avoid tripping the flash counter… [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers / Sasktel] | XDA Forums
I had to order through ATT because my upgrade wasn’t till Oct 23. I had to get approval for it. Other wise I would have.
Mine is now a GPS for my bike on my stem mount.
Got my Verizon GS3 on Friday. On Saturday I caught wind that it has a locked bootloader. WTF.
Anyhoo, I don’t have 4G working for some reason, but I’m easily getting over a day of light use on Wifi. About 8 hours on the first charge, hammering it loading apps and constantly messing with settings and playing.
Thinner than my Droid X was so even though it’s a hair bigger it’s easier to pocket. Screen’s pretty, though the auto brightness is a bit dimmer than I’m used to. I may have to play with that. Pentile is just stupid shit that gives blogs something to bitch about. You can’t see pixelation unless you hold it 3" from your nose. Even then you better have hawk eyes.
Touch wiz sucks ass, but the natury ripple effects and bird chirp and water drip notifications are actually pretty pleasant. I’ll probably toss apex launcher on it soon.
Oh, and it’s fast. Virtually no lag ever. Very smooth.
Samsung’s S-voice works just as well as Siri, which is to say it’s moderately useful. I can see it being very useful in a car dock since you don’t have to touch the phone to wake it up.
Beautiful screen. It’s going to be great for reading ebooks, which was the main reason I went for this beast over an Inc 4G. Now I’ve just got to get an MHL adapter for watching stuff over HDMI in hotel rooms when I travel. (Caution to GS3 owners: This has an 11 pin micro-usb port so the majority of generic MHL adapters out there won’t work as 5 pin has been pretty standard)
Overall I’m very happy with it. Now if we can just get that bootloader unlocked for full custom rom and kernel support I’ll be 100% happy.
Is that just a verizon thing … the locked bootloader? I’ve already flashed and rooted my s3.
I got one a GS3 too, good phone. So thin, though, I’m afraid I’ll break it…
I dropped mine from 8 inches last night, took a nice chunk out of the aluminum… it sucks the case didnt show up a week earlier… sighhh.
Otterbox?
It might just be Verizon. It’s definitely not all of them.
You can still flash custom roms with a locked boatloader but it limits how deep into customization you can get.

I got saved. Sprint store had some weird case I’ve never heard of, Random Order. Hard/soft one piece with a belt holster for $30. Belt holster went in the trash but about 10 minutes after I wedged the phone into the case. It fell from about 2 feet onto concrete, right on the corner. No damage thankfully; it would have been in bad shape. Kind of like this case but still want to see the ob commuter.

It’s just Verizon for the US variants. AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are not locked.
That’s better. Threw Nova launcher on top of Touchwiz. Now this thing is iphone smooth, but faster. Fucking fliiiiiies.
The stock launcher is ugly and jittery.
The touchwiz camera is nice though. The best shot feature in burst mode works really well for capturing busy little kid stuff.
