just curious… why would I want to root my droid.

Cleck - the phone I think you’re talking about will be 100% google, no Motorola or HTC branding, it was supposed to be out this year but no soup. I’m not sure it will be much better though.

it has a few names Gphone, google nexus and it is mostly just rumor at this point

Hmm thanks guys I’ll check it out.

I desperately want to get rid of my Dare but it’s better to wait for my upgrade and get this guy for $100. I’m so impatient.

pretty sure the nexus was confirmed by engadget to be on the t-mobile network.

opens doors to allow the phone to run more complex software. Also allows you to remove built-in apps, as well make other misc. changes to the core of the OS.

lots of pics of the google phone out…

I’m pretty sure that only Google staff get the handset correct?

someone needs to make a better facebook app, the one that comes on the phone is terrible

I heard the google phone isnt tied to a network but its just a wifi phone that connects to your google voice number which is a hella neat idea but we aren’t in an area that has wifi everywhere.

that would be bitchin

i’m beginning to think verizon forgot about my droid. haha, i still havent gotten the update.

i would just do it manually

That update was great, stopped my phone from randomly crashing with texting all the time.

Okay have a question about the Android OS phones. How do they take to modding? Anything like the Windows Mobile phones? I have a Mogul and the battery is shit and it barely works anymore. I want a new phone and have been looking at the Touch Pro2, but also became interested in the Samsung Moment. I need to have the ability to tether to my laptop and also set the phone to roaming only service. Custom ROMs on the WM phone have the ability to set the phone to roam only and also tether by selecting Sprint PCS and not “phone as modem” Is this possible on the Android phones and is there a good website for Android phone support, mods, hacks, etc.

I got a chance to play with the Google Nexus One and 2.1. How very nice.

Ooooooooooooo…

You should scope out alldroid.org

I went to the store to play with the Droid and I like it and want to get one. I’m going to complicate things though, because I only have a flip phone at the moment with a non-data plan.

My plan is 900 min + 5 F&F, and $10 for 500 text/pix + Unlim. IN. Nationwide Basic 900
It costs me 59.99 + 10 for the text/pix. After all is said and done, I get a 20% discount off of the $59.99, making it $47.99. After insurance, taxes, etc. my bill comes out to $74.79/mo.

I want to not only get a Droid, but get a 2nd one as well on my plan. (going from a personal plan to a family plan.) We both want to use unlimited internet, we text a ton and talk a lot. We figure this is cheaper than going with two seperate plans.

At the moment, she also has a 900 minute plan, identical to mine. No data as well. We’d cancel her account and transfer the number to my 2nd line.
With Family & Friends, I use barely any minutes at all from my list. If we got a family plan the F&F shoot up to 10, which means we’ll need the bare minimum plan that includes F&F.

The question: What plan? I know nothing about the plans or what’s included and how much they cost. How much do you pay a month and what do you get? Are you on an individual plan or family?

I want to get the Droid today, if only I can figure out how to cancel her account to add her to mine as well as what to actually get for the plan! I know there is money to be saved by combining these plans… and I want to get rid of my stupid Chocolate 3 flip phone since it turns off on it’s own 30 times a day.

family plan starts at 60/month I think (700 minutes). Data is 30 per line. Unlimited texting for the whole family is 30.
