Official Android thread

no you can’t and that is the thing. They are just scared that android may tap into their market but they don’t realized that most of these android phones are competition for each other. Apple is a bunch of evil fggts

Either apple is losing customers to android or on its way…looks like Steve Jobs is a giant pussy when its comes to competition.

they should have never locked themselves in with att. Ever since then all the other carriers have been trying to carry a true iphone killer.

all 20 patents

Google would have attacked the iPhone with Android regardless of it’s availability on other networks. HTC and Motorola are attacking as well.

They just may not have gotten Verizon’s backing.

This patent suit will not end with any device going away or dying out. It might end with the manufacturer paying money to Apple for use of their patented tech though. I am not sure if you guys know this, but Nokia has been paying patent royalty fees to Apple also. Well, that is until they stopped paying and Apple hit them with a lawsuit.

Just a heads up for people looking to buy the nexus one(myself included), apparently it has a faulty screen and under pressure(from your pocket), can crack and potentially put you SOL.

I was looking forward to it now.

Nokia actually filed suit at apple before apple did the same

God damnit I hate apple

ahhh so the real reason behind the suit against HTC is that apple is scared

"Starting in January, Apple launched a series of C-Level discussions with tier-1 handset makers to underscore its growing displeasure at seeing its iPhone-related IP [intellectual property] infringed. The lawsuit filed against HTC thus appears to be Apple's way of putting a public, lawyered-up exclamation point on a series of blunt conversations that have been occurring behind closed doors.
"Our checks also suggest that these warning shots are meaningfully disrupting the development roadmaps for would-be iPhone killers. Rival software and hardware teams are going back to the drawing board to look for work-arounds. Lawyers are redoubling efforts to gauge potential defensive and offensive responses. And strategy teams are working to chart OS strategies that are better hedged."

jmezzi, sincefor some reason i cant quote you…

I have had the crazy cover everythign insurance on my phones with verizon forever. I have never had to use it but something like this issue gives me peace of mind in case it does happen to me. In the case of my storm 1 I have tons of issues with the screen clicking and sometimes not working at all which is a huge problem if i ever needed my phone in an emergency.

On a side note is anyone else having issues with nyspeed not keeping up with what you’e typing?!?!? This is driving me nuts

Good point about the insurance however the phone isn’t sold through verizon, only google. Does the insurance still work? I read the cost to fix an issue like this with the N1 is like $273.

bah…i really want the nexus one.

i just went from winmo to android last month. got the hero

I don’t really have the time to read this whole thread…but i was hoping someone could outline the key differences between the Driod and the Droid ERIS for me other than the obvious size/shape difference, the qwerty keyboard, and the fact that the ERIS come standard with an SD card half the capacity of the bigger Droid.

Are there any other differences with the programming/operating system itself? I dunno if i can justify an extra $100 or so on the bigger one just for a bit more memory and a keyboard i’d never use anyway.

It is less powerful, it is running an older version of android (1.6 vs 2.0.1) and is running a modified user interface called ‘Sense’, that was created by HTC…So the frontend on the phone looks a bit different than the droid.

I think the nexus one should be sold through both google without a contract and through verizon with a contract.

Too soon junior!

Should have held out a little.

PS If the nexus one isnt awesome by the time it is on verizon I am getting this:

Its an HTC branded nexus the only thing i don’t like is the under clocked snapdragon

I’ve been reading up on the N1 a bit at work, I’m still going to get one. I don’t do that much rigorous activity that would put my phone in harms way for just being in my pocket.

it may be worth it to wait for the HTC incredible. I know that the track balls on blackberrys always evenually get gunked up. Having a track pad in virtually the same phone should be kick ass.

wrong orbby. i bought the phone off someone…my contract is still up in august, so ill still get full discounts if and when the nexus one comes out for sprint

I had the eris for a month and returned it for a droid. in addition to the other stuff Its alot slower and the battery life was terrible compared to the droid. Last I checked the eris still had no google nav because of the older os, that could have changed though. Eris is older tech too and may not get things like flash player in the future. I really like the hardware keyboard on the droid too.
