I just downloaded Handcent and love it.
the only thing im aware that you can do is sms updates for when someone comments on something.
i started actually using apps, and i like my phone a lot better now lol. ive had it for about 7-8months and havent even used it for anything other than internet and texting/call/gps
anyone go and pick up the nexus s today?
So, what android users are out there that are eligible for an upgrade, but are waiting for cooler shit?
I am in this group. I think rather than waste a device upgrade, I am waiting until some seriously cool stuff comes out. Upgrading is only gonna get me better hardware and a little bit of speed increase since just about everyone is on Froyo.
I’m not sure exactly what I want to see before upgrading, but I’m not really convinced that Android 2.3 alone is enough to make me jump from my Droid.
Thoughts from others?
2.3 isn’t a HUGGE improvement, so nothing to get the panties wet about. The nexus S paired with 2.3 may sway your decision. From all that reviews I’ve seen people seem to be raving about it. I don’t think it’s a must have so if you want to wait for something else than that might be OK. LG is working on a “super slim, super bright” phone for CES, that should be exciting to see I think.
I should note, I am a verizon customer and I will not switch carriers, so I am not buying a Nexus S anyways.
Not sure why they went with T-Mobile for the Nexus-S…It’s like putting the iPhone on Cricket.
i am in this exact position, i am sick of my droid never working right but there is nothing out there right now for verizon that would make me run to the store and get a new phone. if the nexus s was released on verizon i would have gotten that without a doubt but i will not switch back to t-mobile.
i just want a phone that has stock android, no blur or sense and not bs crap apps put on there that i cant delete and a boot loader that is locked. I was kind of thinking about getting a fascinate because that is basically a nexus s and just root it but then i thought about the GPS problems.
However i cannot wait to see what manufacturers at CES has to offer. I am hoping there are some good phones coming out expecially with the tegra 2 processor but i have a feeling that most of everything will be 4g and i dont want to pay more money for a data plan when 3g is perfectly fine for me
Personally, I think that when it comes the manufacturer, I am going to be VERY picky.
Motorola has proven that it will upgrade it’s phones in a somewhat timely manner. HTC has been keeping up with versions as well. What has Samsung done? Aren’t they all still running 2.1? That’s a fail. What has LG done in the way of upgrades? So that’s a big thing in my mind. I like that even though my phone was released well over a year ago, and it’s basically obsolete, I’ve still been receiving updates. So that’s probably the number 1 thing I am going after.
Want Swype on your phone? Just take 2 minutes to register and you can get it.

My new blog post on force updating:

Pretty sure I’m picking up a nook color tomorrow with intentions to root it. May hold off for a month or so as they’re supposed to be coming out with a big update early sometime next month. Essentially be a $250 tablet.
Got my Droid (original Droid 1, used) in the mail yesterday. Have z4root up and running, going to flash a new ROM on today. Love this phone so far, great experience for my first foray into smart phones.
Anyone have recommendations for a good case? The paint on the front bevel is chipping. I’m looking at the Otterbox case right now, but open to suggestions…
Anybody opinions on the droid pro? I’ve had the original Droid for quite awhile and I cant stand the slide out keyboard or on-screen keyboard.
Otterbox seems to be the top dog for cases. I contemplated getting it but, I need something really slim or easy to get off. I use the multimedia dock and sometimes the GPS car mount, and with a case on the phone will not fit in either.
I would sell my otterbox case. Make an offer
I haven’t used a Droid Pro, but you could try installing the Swype beta… it can get annoying at times but it’s usually pretty good, you might like it.
Droid pro is pretty cool. I was using my buddy’s today. Thought the keyboard was a little hard to type with. Otherwise it seemed like a good phone.
Thoughts on the new atrix? Wonder when att will start selling it.
Atrix looks really cool, you’ll probably start seeing these CES devices in Q2
