High five on the E71x…
FYI, after you have it activated for a month or so, put your SIM in a dumbphone for a couple days. You can borrow one if you want. As soon as it shows up in the Online Account manager on your line, you can switch your data from the $30 a month PDA plan to the $10 a month Family Data Unlimited plan. Then you can pop right back in to the Nokia and spend $20 extra a month on beer.
Wait, wat?
You mean I can trick my account into some sort of $10/mo data plan for a normal phone? Can I do that with the wife’s iPhag too?
You can do it with any smartphone except for iPhone and Blackberry. For those, data won’t work unless you’re on the correct plan.
But Win Mobile and Symbian smartphones use data exactly the same as a dumbphone. As long as you put your SIM into a dumbphone, you can add dumbphone data, either on the phone or online, then switch back to your PDA and it still works perfectly.
Dumbphone data is $15 a month, unless you are on a Family plan with the Family unlimited texting plan, then you can add Family Data Unlimited for $10 per line. If you don’t have unlimited text, $15 is still better than $30.
best music app ?
other apps that are cool i should get?
ubertwitter.
opera mini
Perfect. I’ll have to do the unlimited texting then. I was up in the air on it because I’m really sick of our phone bill steadily approaching $200/mo. :hang:
Now as soon as I get it we’ll start an official symbian crew thread. :highfive:
Pandora seems to do a better job of knowing what songs to play IMO, but Slacker plays the song you searched for first. Pandora just plays a similar song.
Viigo is handy for skimming the news, and having Bills/Sabres schedule and live scores available at a glance.
Google Maps > BB Maps
BBWeather is nice. The icon constantly updates with outside temp and conditions.
GPSED is cool for boat rides and walks/hikes. Logs via GPS where you’ve been, how far, avg speed, etc, then uploads to a website. If you pay $9.99 for the pro version you can geotag pictures and attach them to your map.
Also enter you and your wife’s work e-mails on the site and see if you qualify for Premier. Every company’s is different, but some of them have really good perks, and when you call in you go right to Premier customer service, which has less call time metrics and stuff and usually know how to actually fix your account correctly.
The company contract I’m on, from one of my internships years ago, allows for unlimited upgrades that just re-start your contract. If I upgrade my phone one day in, I can ebay it for $200 profit by tacking on one day to my contract.
Yeah Praxair’s got some pretty nice discounts and Premier access.
Man Fry, you have had more issues than any person in the world should have… either that or you are super nit picky
I know I pushed out 10 Tours and all had the release track back issue, went into store and got brand new devices off the shelf and all of them have been perfect since then.
I wish I could say I was just being nit-picky. 1-3 had headphone port issues. #1 was basically unusable, #2 was pretty bad, and #3 wasn’t terrible but I still couldn’t listen to music with the device in my pocket because it would jiggle the jack enough to stop the music.
#4 definitely had the horizontal scroll issue. It acted like it was sticking while scrolling left/right and I’d wind up hunting back and forth constantly for whatever I was trying to click on.
#5 is unusable right out of the box. I’ve switched back to Jeff’s old 8830 because the new one is so bad. Clicking the trackball doesn’t select anything.
I know I’m just having bad luck, but I was pleading with both the store and 611 to just let me switch to an Ozone after the 4th one went bad. After 4 bad ones in a row you would think they would let me switch, or at least give me a brand new one that they were sure worked. Instead they sent me the worst one yet. Fuck that. They just lost $150+/month.
i <3 my tour so far
the only way they listen.

Let them know.
Sounds like you have had some tough support people so far, damn. Def sucks that you got dicked around like that.
UGH
5.BRO is seriously pissing me off.
only prob i have so far with tour is a high pitch sound while on the phone , but i think its cuz i had the earpiece volume at max. anyone ever experience that?
A quick screech? I get that on my beta OS every know and then.
pandora really doesnt like 5.0
Naw, gotta stick with slacker. (It works fine.)
5.0.0.230 really seemed pretty solid. What other problems did you have? The only thing that chased me away is that it didn’t play nice with GPSED while I was trying to be a geek while hiking around the wife’s grandparents 270 acres in New Hampshire.
Tour #6 showed up. FINALLY looks like it works properly. Now to sell it before something goes wrong. Someone go bid up my auction. I swear the reserve’s set at $200.00!
