Regier even implied he knew it was a mistake letting both co-captains go before Quinn jumped in to fortify the Sabres’ official stance.
They fucked up. They admitted it. There is no back up plan. Drury and Briere are closer than most people think and Buffalo tried to screw one of them by pitting them against each other and ended up losing them both.
From the end of the season, Drury and Briere talked about their situations. Anyone who had a connection with either also knew becuase they talked about it with people stating they wanted to stay in Buffalo. They both were gonna play together or go their separate ways. I personally have no hate towards them for making the choice they made becuase they were not respected by Sabres management.
i dont think you guys are thinking back far enough to get why drury wasnt going to stay. he has been unhappy with buffalo managment since last year.
drury shined with was an endless string of changing linemates. drury was always centering the two players of the week since last year. he voiced his displeasure with this. we never took care of it and i think it played a huge role. even if we had made an offer sooner than later, it wouldnt have been a garuntee.
besides, in the grand scheme of things, drury prolly wants to play for NY. if you played baseball and had offers from philly and the yanks for the same amount of money…you play for the yanks. NYC is a much more profitable, capable hockey market. combine that with discomfort with buffalo managment and you have an easy decision on your hands
Quotes from a few days ago don’t mean much now that the idiot boys (Quinn and Regier) plan of keeping Drury fell apart. I’m guessing they’re throwing money at “the best of what’s left”.
Doesn’t mean Zubris will stay though, or if he’ll even want to with Drury and Briere gone now.

Zubrus loved the atmosphere & energy pf the team and hockey-town. He also wanted a solid chance to get back to the Lords Cup.
I’m betting that he’s not nearly as interested in B-lo any longer… The cup chances have dramatically decreased & its become apparent that mgmt really doesn’t care AS FAR AS THE PLAYERS know.
 at thinking the whole team banks on two people…
Its not really banking on two people. In the playoffs, they both did not really play at par.
Its more of they were both captains and when your team is such a playoff contender and first place in the league, why would you ever let go of both captains.
not trying to make good on the front office of the team, but in case everyone forgot, we had absolutely zero cap room all year long. re-upping drury for a new contract sounds great in retrospect, but where does that money come from? he would have added 2 mil onto his cap hit for this year, we had no room for that.
we should have made better financial decisions earlier on, ie no 2 million dollar backup goalie, no 3 million concussed player who played 2 regular season games, etc…but that’s another can of worms i’m not opening right now.
LOL, maybe i should take my current job off and leave on mye previous high school jobs. Burger King, Hollywood Video and Avis rent a car. And go for quinn’s job.
Looks like i would already be a step ahead of him because i would have never let that ugly yellow stain in the jersey.

Real simple, from Briere. They’ve admitted they never expected to keep Briere. If that’s the case, there’s your missing money.
saku koivu -21
sheldon souray -28
michael ryder -25
alex kovalev -19
francis bouillon -11
guillaume latendresse -20
chris higgins -11
janne niinimaa -13
gee all those guys must really suck
You must have a hard time reading, Jay. I didn’t say he sucks because he is a minus 28, that is just part of the reason why he sucks. He sucks because he was a -28 last season, he had 135 penalty minutes (which you haven’t commented on yet so you obviously don’t think that’s a big deal), he’s a terrible 1-on-1 defenseman AND HE’S ASKING OVER 5 MILLION DOLLARS to be a PP specialist.
Also, it’s pretty funny that out of all the guys you posted +/- for, Souray’s the - leader

edit and since your so stuck on vaneks numbers
I mentioned Vanek’s numbers once…
Anyway, this is all moot anyway, because Souray coming here is just not gonna happen.
The bottom line is that Regier and Quinn fucked Buffalo up big time !!
Really? Because I could’ve sworn they drafted guys like Vanek, Stafford, Campbell, Miller, Tallinder, Pominville, Roy, Gaustad, etc. Seriously, you guys are taking this way too far. Does it suck that both captains left? Hell yes. But it’s not the end of the Buffalo Sabres as we know it. Really all I see them needing is 1 solid veteran center or a d-man and the team isn’t far off from last year.
Stafford, Vanek, Gaustad and Roy going to be better next year, and who knows who else will step up.
