OFFICIAL Buffalo Sabres Thread

Great game. We all knew Atlanta would be a big test.

Can’t wait for the game Thursday.

Frankly I’m glad its over. It had to be a distraction for the players. Now they can just get down to business and take it one game at a time.

On a side note, it figures the streak would end on a night where we outplayed the other team. I hope we meet Atlanta in the playoffs. I wouldn’t be worried playing a 7 game series against them.

 we outplayed them? You must have been watching a different game…

They controlled the pace of play for the entire last 2/3rds of the game, we were lucky to get into OT considering we hadn’t had any decent scoring chances since early in the second

We were outworked everywhere. The big thing that I felt was going on was that everyone was trying too hard to make plays happen, everythign was forced down low, I dont think there were too many solid shots from the point, or even high in the slot for that matter

It sucks that it it over, I am glad we were able to walk away with the point

oh and get vanek off the shootout list…

The sabres out played them.

We just gave up a few bad chances and you can’t do that against a team like Atlanta. The first period the sabres played ok, but the second was ours and so was the third. Puck didn’t fall our way. I’ve never seen so many shots, just find a way to avoid the net. I’ll give atlanta a lot of credit for keeping their sticks in the lane and blocking lots of shots. Without that we would have beat them. Atlanta was on their heals from our last goal on and we prob would have won if it wasn’t to be settled with a shootout. Can’t wait for Thursday.

atlanta.
leafs still have the record, sabres did a decent job trying to over take it though.

I agree there were times we outplayed them…the beginning of the first, ATLs goal was lucky in that no one picked up a lose puck right along side the net, and then at the end of the third and OT…otherwise they threw up the trap and completly controlled our transition game, they could barely dump the puck in. I think Drury was guilty of about 3 icings due to this…

The game could have gone either way, ATL definitly got some good bounces their way, and created a bunch of chances on their own by blocking shots, clogging up the neutral zone etc…

 @ Atlanta outplaying us. How long have you been watching hockey? Let me guess, since the big playoff run last year when hockey suddenly got “cool”?

We had SO many scoring chances but just couldn’t get the bounces. Atlanta only had a few real good scoring chances, but theirs went in. That’s hockey, that’s why we have 82 game seasons, that’s why we have a 7 game playoff format. Like was already said, I wouldn’t be scared to face them in the playoffs. The only place they really outplayed us was faceoffs, but by the end of the game we were doing better.

Great game, regardless of the outcome.

Actually, now they both have the record. Man I hate sharing anything with Toronto. It’s bad enough we both get lake ontario.

Oh I definitly would not be scared to face any team in the playoffs with the team we have…

and again they completly controlled the flow of the game…

any times we scored they would come right back and keep the puck glued in our own end, as if the ice suddenly tilted…and then would score to take back the lead. Once regaining the lead they would sit back setup the trap and control the neutral zone…we defintly had a lot of great scoring chances, I am not saying the totally pwnzored us, but they had control of the majority of that game. It was ine of our better games yet this season as well, mistakes were down, but when they were made ATL capitalized. I was particularly impressed with the Sabres lack of penalties, very disciplined play…though the refs seemed to hold their whistles for both times on a handful of calls…

perhaps from your TV things looked different…but actually being there you could see the frustration that was setting in as the Sabres could n’t break through the neutral zone for most of the second half of the game. When they have to make passes up the center of the neutral zone just to be able to break across the blue line you know the other team is doing a good job at covering up the boards where the Sabres speed can really show through.

It was a really good game, by both teams, they just out-fought us for the win.

edit: screw lake ontario… its dirty dirty…I mean rochester is one it for crying out loud…lake erie FTW!

that game was nuts i didt watch cuz i was at a concert but i had the scores sent to my phone an i think i was thinking about that more then the concert. On a side note i was in rochester last night and i saw about five cars driving around with sabers flags out their windows go sabers

i must say one thing: The Buffalo Sabres know all about being one win away.

I’ll take being one win away over not even being in contention for anything…

Just like how the leafs are constantly one win away, from a one game winning streak?

settle down people. i wish the Leafs would have won 10 in a row.

or 10 at all.

:frowning:

why, hes statistically one of the best shootout players we have

he has no moves…his only move is to try and drag the puck…the only time I have ever seen him score is against Montreal this season, and he just shot it high (like he tried again ATL)

perhaps he does really well in pratice or something :gotme:

EDIT: found this…

M. AFINOGENOV 3-5 0.600
