Pittsburgh got some breaks, but it should have been 2-0 in th first because that was clearly a goal. You see the puck right on the line, then you can’t see the line but can clearly see the puck go another inch or more. At some point common sense has to come into these replays and say "if I could clearly see the puck right on the line, then clearly see the puck go an inch FARTHER into the net, it must have crossed the line.
believe me i hear you… and as a goalie ive done that before, and know damn well the puck was over the line… .BUT as in the rules… it was NOT conclusive… you couldnt see the WHOLE puck cross, and you would have to see that to overturn the ruling… trust me i was screaming that it was a goal, but even though you, i and everyone else know that puck crossed the line, there was still a portion that was covered by the glove you REALLY couldnt tell that totally crossed…
was it a bullshit call… yes… but was it a right call… yes
what got me was the two penalties by biron and ruutu… how the fuck can you have a cross check AND a dive… come on now… its like calling off sides and false start in football
I thought crosby played very well yesterday, and malkin was a bit shook after he got laid out twice following the elbow to briere. Him getting rid of the puck at the blue line was the turnover that led to the short handed goal. and I’m not really a big crosby fan
Easy, it happens all the time in the NHL. I cross check you, not hard but enough to be illegal, but you flop on the ice as though hit by a truck. Ref doesn’t like your embellishment and calls you for the dive, while calling me for original infraction.
i see what youre saying but i dunno… still dont think its right… it was a pretty good check to the front of him…
if anyones ever been on skates and got pushed backwards like that, being caught off guard, youre gonna fall… i dont think he dove that time, it shoulda been a cross check. the fact that original penalty gets called and then a min later, they send ruutu to the box was dumb… call both right there, dont sit and think bout it
although i dont agree with the tripping penalty to franken-hatcher on malkin… malkin forced the penalty and hatch really didnt do anything.
Malkin is a great player, I will definitely agree with that. But I’m just not a fan of Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in general. But with the way they’re playing, they seem unstoppable at times.
i knew they werent gonna overturn the goal because you could never tell it was in, only assume, like you said.
i think they called rutuu after the biron thing, hartnell or hatcher gave rutuu a face wash/nudge after the play and rutuu i think tried to sell it a bit. if they were calling it on the biron hit then it was bullshit.
thats fine and dandy, but you couldn’t SEE the puck go across, so its not a goal. it was the right call. and if you start introducing “common sense” into the equation, where do you draw the line? it’ll never be perfect, so just leave it the way it is imho
^ Draw the line at the common side of common sense.
Like in the case of this specific goal you can freeze frame it and see the puck is right on the line. If it goes 1/16th of an inch more it’s a goal. As you advance the replay frame by frame the glove covers the line but you see the puck go more than an inch farther into the next. It doesn’t take rocket science, trigonometry or psychic powers to know the puck is in the net.
The rule only says it has to be conclusive, it says nothing about “you have to see it clearly”. To me conclusive is when you see a puck that is millimeters away from crossing the line, then the puck goes more than an inch, even if you can’t see the line anymore you conclusively know it’s in. Everyone watching KNEW it was in, but used the cop out of “well, it won’t be a goal because we don’t see white ice”. It’s the sports equivalent to getting away with murder because some cop forgot to read you your rights.
Doesn’t matter, the NHL is run by a complete fucktard sent over by the NBA to guarantee the NHL would never surpass the NBA in ratings and has far bigger issues than it’s replay system.
Wow… really didn’t expect to see Philly refuse to shoot the puck deep like this. It’s like watching lemmings just continue to walk single file off a cliff.
