«OFFICIAL» Watercraft / Jet Ski / PWC Thread + Boats

Ok, so I got new oil, battery, plugs, fuel, and cleaned the Doo up quite a bit…also just completed the NYS boating safety course this AM with my wife…going to install all the new parts tom. AM and weather pending, maybe try to drop this thing in the water in the afternoon and see where the chips fall…or sink…

:xz:

Just putting this out there. When I go out with my dads seadoo I always start his ski up before we leave the house, and before we put it in the water lol. Nothing worse then driving down there and it doesent start. Don’t worry about not having it in the water when u start it up just don’t leave it run longer then a minute and you will be fine. It’s became a habit honestly. I got burned a few times with his espically when we first got it. So far 2 starters and 2 starter solonoids later she’s reliable. Also if you have to jump start the ski don’t have the car running. The 14+ volts from the alternator can take out electronics pretty easy on early model skis. Good luck let us know how it goes!

If anyone is interested in going out today, a few of us might be out on the lake. I’m starting to get a cold so I wont be on my ski but I’d be on a sailboat with 1 or 2 standup skis cruising around us. Waves are not huge but enough to jump

We’re headed out about 3:30pm. We’ll probably be the only ones out there, lol.

Great summer to own a boat / PWC, just like owning a sled in winters with no snow.

Im wearing jeans and a long sleeve. Lol more power to the guys out their on pwcs today.

You guys are crazy haha. I looked out the window yesterday and Netflix won by a long shot.

+1.

Not sure what the appeal is of going out when it’s barely 60 degrees and raining.

well when I look at the weather from my house in depew, I always subtract 10deg once you get a mile away from the water front lol. i guess if someone has a wet suit it’s not too bad but the rain feels like needles lol

Anyone ever had or have any experience with a 1998 Yamaha XL 1200? I have an opportunity to pick one up fairly cheap, starts runs, hull is in good shape, been stored outside but under cover. Gauges do not work so I dont know how to tell the hours on it, but I plan to check the compression. Is a triple in a PWC no good or are they alright? Never been in the PWC game but i assume they are similar to working on snowmobiles, 2 stroke bikes etc?

Check for updated fuel lines (old ones are usually light grey new ones are black) Incase the previous owner used ethanol fuel, check the wear ring around the prop for wear. Always meet the person at the water and take it for a ride, Alot of things dont show up unless your on the water. Obviously check for cracks in the very bottom of the hull (lay on the ground and get under there). Also check for water in the hull after the test ride. Depending on the cooling system on the ski, double check the oil for water in it. Thats the general guidelines.

If the gauges do not work look around for signs of a furry critter chewing on wires since it was sitting outside.

It was great actually

The water temp was warmer than the air temp, so it being in the water actually felt nice. It didn’t even rain until we got some mist towards the end.

The appeal is the waves & wind. 20 knots had us moving. And the waves started out at mostly 2 feet but conveniently once my phone battery died we hit some 5 foot swells.

I like being on the water when it’s hot out and calm, but IMO it’s much more fun when you can jetski & sail over big waves.

And yes he did stick all of these landings. He wasn’t getting much air on these small waves when we first went out:

Had to do some alternator shimming yesterday evening so it would stop slinging belts. Pretty nice day to be out on Ontario. Not another boat in sight. Was out solo. Kind of a surreal experience.

I have a 05 xlt 1200, just did a carb rebuild, cat delete and a 13/19 impeller. gonna run it this weekend hopefully. They are def good pwc. Plenty of power for towing if thats your thing.

planned on cleaning up ski tmrw, probably going to say F-it and just tow dudes on tubes.

is patina the right word? chipped paint on bumper, cobwebs and every other sort of dirt&scum just adds character.

I’ll be out sunday with the banana boat. Can’t wait! Finally a nice weekend.

If anyone is going out tomorrow I’ll be at Gallagher and on the river too. Going to be a really nice day

I was out all day yesterday. I got my new Worx racing sponsons On and holy crap I turn on a dime… I ended up flying 10 feet off into the water at Gallagher yesterday. They Work

Nice

What are you towing with? So I know what to look for at Gallagher. There is a silver Acura there and it was there yesterday, but I didn’t know if that was you. I have my Range Rover.

I’m all ready to go out today

Yea I have the Acura with the aluminum trailer. Im pretty sure I was the only car with a trailer there yesterday. My allergies are driving me nuts today so I may head down after work I may not I don’t know yet. Im out of work at 3 so hopefully this will clear up before then.

Dropped the boat in Seneca Lake in Geneva Thursday morning and cruised down to Watkins Glen. Stopped at a couple wineries along the way and stayed overnight at the Anchor Inn. Hike Glen Falls Friday then cruised back to Geneva. Solid 70 miles by boat over 2 days.
