they’re just not gonna sell this year’s models. too bad. I was hoping they would stop making them altogether. (My next door neighbor has a red Altima and I think it’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen…except for the upstairs neighbor’s rusted out Escort with the alarm that constantly beeps)
^^^That altima had a VQ35, which is actually a good motor. The lump-of-crap QR25 has been around since 2002 and 4 years later that lump is still having stop-ship level oil burning issues??
Misread the article… thought the meant the Sentra and Altima SE-R’s…:banghead:
I never really read up on the Altima SE-R… didn’t have any interest in it. Either way, bone head move on Nissan’s part. At least this didn’t happen 5 years ago when their balls were in the ringer.
The Altime 3.5 SE and SE-R have Nissan’s V6. Same motor as say, Maximas, 350Z’s, Murano’s, Infiniti G35’s, FX35’s, and probably others that I’m not thinking of. I don’t know a whole lot about it other than it’s pretty solid and sounds like sex in my soon-to-be father in-law’s G35C.
The QR25 on the other hand is a love/hate motor. Love it because it’s a 2.5L 4 cylinder that makes more torque than HP, both of which are over 150 at the wheels. Plus it can be modded for more power pretty easily, both NA and boosted. Hate it because it’s been a bear for Nissan to manufacture. (They had to recall eleventy billion of them in 2002 because they put the precat too close to the motor. It got too hot, broke apart, and pieces got sucked back in runing the motor. Other oil burning issues, etc.) Plus it breaks easily be it modded for NA, boosted, or just abused stock. IMO it’s a piece of shit that should have been abandoned long ago. It was and still is an embarassing replacement for the SR20/KA24.
I wish Nissan would pull their head out of their ass and build Sentras with the SR20VE. Stroke it to 2.2L and go head to head with Civic SI’s, RSX-S’s, the upcoming Mazdaspeed 3, Cobalt SS, etc… Oh well, pipe dreams…
