OMG *OFFICIAL* iPhone Thread

at this point the touch interface is the only thoing that blackberry does better than anyone else’s phone. I really have to say nothing can even come close to how smoothy it works but when it comes down to it, it is definitely not worth it to me to leave verizon for a touch screen.

The point of the GPS is not just the little blue pulsing ball. A pretty-dang-close location aware interface opens the door for a lot of cool/useful/fun/interesting/etc apps that can be created that capitalize on it.

For example, one of the free apps out now, called Graffitio, lets you make “walls” that are geographic location based. You can then write on those walls and other people in the area can read it. Imagine if you went to a restaurant where someone had a wall posted that said how the service sucked that night, or how awesome the apple pie was, etc. Kind of silly, but this is the start of it, and we’re only going to see more complex and more useful apps as we go along.

If you seriously can’t see past “a blue dot that moves,” then stick to a rotary.

Are you fucking kidding me? Do I NEED to dick punch you for that comment, or can I just write it off as stupidity? I think I can let that one go this time. I can obviously see the “potential” but is potential worth me walking away from something that I have become very effective and efficient on? Is it worth buying a $300 handset that will be WAY outdated well before my 2 year contract is up? Maybe for you it is perfect and amazing and the best gadget to grace this shithole existence, but it may be a bit impractical for some of us. Maybe I will be interested in like the 4th gen iPhone. Thanks.

My only problem is that I have my new phone from ATT I got a week ago which I do not like. I want to exchange it within 30 days for the iphone so I need to go to an ATT store

Have you been to ANY cell phone company in the last 5 years? All major carriers have 2 year contracts on phones. As far as I know, I think people on ATT can pay a small fee and upgrade to the new iPhone from any current phone. Also, what else would change in 2 years on it that isnt software based? It will still be 3G in 2 years unless ATT finds a way to upgrade their entire network for free to 4G which wont happen. The rest is left to application developers

Are you familiar with Apple? Seriously, at all even in the tiniest bit? Everything will change in like 6 months. Storage will double, interface will improve, blah blah blah.

Apple?

ANY MODERN TECHNOLOGY IS LIKE THAT!

stop humping apple and admit its not even true GPS, and dont say it is, because it is not.

Well, it is true GPS. It’s not a true navigation system though.

I still think I’m getting one. I’m not directionally challenged enough that I need voice prompted turn by turn directions. Hell, most of the time I don’t even need a map, just read the directions before hand and drive it from memory. It still has a great web browser, the ipod, the app store, real time GPS tracking, 3g speed and oh yeah, it’s a phone. If TomTom eventually releases the turn by turn nav for it I’ll probably get it but not having it wasn’t a deal breaker.

Probably would have had one yesterday but of course my local AT&T store didn’t have any. Went in just to check out the demo models but was ready to buy one.

i hear ya, i already have a car GPS so it wouldn’t matter to me much, but i need to find an unlocked one if im buying one at all

Just got back from the Apple Store.

If I start buying shit like Airports you have permission to kill me.

yeah, I don’t see a ton of uses for it. The battery life leaves a lot to be desired anyway, I can’t imagine using a GPS service in the car for more than an hour unless had it charging

lol, my dumb friend went and bought an airport and spend a shit load of $$$ on it. He was real pissed to find out that he could of just went to best buy and picked up a netgear router for 1/6th the price

so you got a 3g too I assume?

LOL, you guys are so wound up about a phone. I’m not humping in the least, I can just see things for what they mean down the road. Good perspective to take on life in general.

Ok, I’ve been playing with the iphone for a couple hours. It really is pretty cool. For someone who never texts though my hand is cramped from using the little keyboard.

I had to install itunes on my laptop. I feel dirty.

I’ll hopefully pick mine up this week sometime. How is AT&T’s 3G network? I never usually have a problem with service on EDGE so I’m hoping the coverage is the same.

You can check out the 3g coverage at at&t’s site. Basically just cities. It will work on edge as well though.

If you get an iphone with AT&T, do they make you get a data plan? I know you would want one obviously, but I was told they don’t make it an option like they do with the Blackberry’s. Sorry if it was covered already.

Yep, with the iPhone you have to get a data plan with it.

I was a huge apple hater till i got my iphone yesterday…

all I can say… There are def some cool apps, and the video quality is great in my opinion. Really haven’t put it down since yesterday. 8/10 in my opinion. NEEDS better battery and I feel I should have the choice of what software I install… oh well I can always Jailbreak it

Seriously, the batter life SUCKS.

+1

But I expected that because of 3G. If you’re going to be off tether for a long time it’s a good idea to turn off 3G.
