on going argument

so… i’m in this ongoing argument with some vw faggorts…

anyway…

they are telling me that trap speed = HP and gearing plays no role… i’m told that gearing will only adjust ET and NOT traps…

they claim that

hp = (trap/234)^3 * weight

all i said was ET is the car and the driver… traps are the car… but i said that you could swap tranny’s or gears and change traps and they are arguing that i’m incorrect…

am i?

im gonna say your right

firday i ran a 13.2 at 105 and i put in the 373 gears need to drive more i know i can get lower then 13.2

but before i was running 13.7 13.6 13.5 at 105

nope, trap speed means poooooooooooooooop!!!

that’s what we said on saturday, and that’s what i’ve been saying…

they’re telling me that trap = hp and if you swap tranny / gears it won’t effect trap… only ET.

if your cars tasts the tires on the line you will get a higher trap speed…but if you hook lower trap speed…

but its all about who gets to the line first…that means ET…

oh for christ’s sake i know how it works!!!

the question is…

will a car with 200 hp and 373 gears have the same trap as a car with 200 hp with 411 gears … or any gear ratio.

or any tranny setup!!!

they are claiming that HP = traps…so the only way to fluctuate traps is to gain or lose HP… i’m claiming that you can swap tranny’s or gears and fluctuate traps…

those guys just suck…

on the same sized tires i’d be worried about running out of gear and trapping lower

if u spin ur trap will be higher,u hook it will be lower,u deep stage ur trap will be lower!!!

I don’t think you could change trap speed very much. maybe,MAYBE just a couple mph.(1 or 2). gear changes will make a bigger effect on e.t. unless you’re talking like 2.73 to 4.10 then you might see a few more mph. I have had two very similar trucks, some may say identicle.all the same motor mods.one had a 305 with th700 tranny and 2.73 and my current truck has a 305 with th350 and 4.10. time slips were 16.3 at 81 and my current truck has run 15.6 at 88.

380 hp in my car trap speed 110 auto
black z28’s car 320 hp trap speed 110 manual
he has 342’s i have 323’s

I don’t think that’s a perfect comparison since the tranny has different gear ratios, not just the rear end.

maybe i can shed some light on this…

on my turbo six… AND my turbo pgt… i would put my 17’s with 225-45-17’s because i would trap higher… and get better et’s… because the tire overall diameter was an inch bigger causeing me to have a longer powerband…

stock size tires just sucked… shorter power band… shittier times… at the 1/4 out of the band1

but then again my cars all tq… believe it or not… lol… so i had to find a way to keep the power down low in longer… i wish i had the gearing of the newer eclipes…

sooo anyway this is just my own theory… my car isn t to camparable to anybody’s though :moon:
