One for the Ford guys!

noone said it was new technology but its tough to really knock it. it does what its supposed to do. its fairly light, mods well, gets adequate mpg, makes great power over a good spread. the new ls3s are supposedly dynoing around the 390 range bone stock, i dont see how anyone would complain about that. not knocking Ford, just saying GM seems to be doing things decent in my opinion

we all agree on that. Everything looks good for now, but looking a few years into the future is a different story. I just think that pushrod technology will eventually get to where it cannot compete anymore.

But looking at it, the new mod motors are only ~15 years old and are making comparable numbers to an engine that has been around for 50 or so years. I can’t imagine where the mod motor will be after 35 more years of refinement.

ya i dunno. i think its tough to predict the future in general. when is the hp wars gonna stop? mean if the base ls3s are dynoing close to 400 plus the ls7 is where it is etc. at what point can those motors not compete? is the 2012 base Mustang GT gonna be at like 700 and the SVT be 900? i mean, i just dont know what to say about anything in the future at this point. who knows, maybe they wont be using either design with all the alternative fuels and whatever crazyness is being expermented with. but for right now i guess its cool that Ford does their thing and their customers like it and same goes for GM.

HP will certainly go up, emissions will certainly go down. I bet in 10 years you’ll have 400hp base model rwd cars that simply get more efficient in smog and economy.

you’ll never kill technology that works, be it pushrods or not.

This mustang is :greddy:

The LSx motors have only been around for 10 years. Not 50.

The only thing they share with the original small block is bore spacing & overall size.

No overhead cam motor will make the torque that a pushrod motor makes. Pushrod motors will be around forever. They are cheap to build, less moving parts, and much cheaper to maintain/repair over a vehicle’s lifetime. Plus it is alot cheaper to do performance upgrades to.

I am not knocking the mod motor. I think it is a great motor. Doesn’t mean it is the best.

my bad on the lsx years, I kinda group the lsx in with the chebby 350.

Have you seen the torque numbers on the 03 cobra or lightning? Even the N/A marauder and new mustang GT motor isn’t too shabby in torque.

LSX’s are not that cheap to mod compared to a mod motor. It may be a little cheaper but not much.

Pushrod motors are nice, but they will not be around forever(at least in normal factory production).

:bowrofl: :bowrofl: you ever price a 03/04 cobra motor out

i think alot of that is just due to the popularity and the ‘corvette tax’ that goes along with the motors. in general its cheaper/easier to mod them just because of the simplicity.

I am guessing the HP war to last a few more years. Then insurance companies will get involved and we will have the 70’s all over again. :frowning: I think this is where the now mod motors will continue and the old school pushrod engines will not be able to keep up with emissions and whatever else they tack on.

ya thats what im fearing. you could be right about all this though.

around $6000, but that motor with more boost will support 800+hp will factory internals.

Any DOHC lincoln motor with new rods and pistons (~$1000) and some boost will make that much HP. Either way, you are spending about 7-8K for a 700hp engine(assuming new parts) - disclaimer, this is just a guess on part prices, but it’s fairly close.

How much is it to build a lsx? It may be a little bit cheaper but not much.

I think people assume it’s easier to work on because it’s what they grew up with. :dunno:

well for under 3k you can get a new fully forged short block…heads range from a few hundred to thousands

like my motor
short block 3,300
heads 2,900

like I said, it may be cheaper, but not much.

I went to look at a '71 Duster up there. It was a big block 383 with a street cam and headers, 727 trans, and 8 3/4 rearend.
Problem was, I forgot my magnet! (my own dumbass fault).
But after all, in his description of the car he stated “I can find no evidence of any bodyfiller or patches anywhere.”

The car looked VERY nice. Ran Nice. Steering was a lil’ funky but that can be fixed. I decided to purchase it.

The car had 2:73 gears in it. Dr. Homo told me that he could get them changed to 3:91’s for me for about $300. Sounded pretty good to me. I gave him my dough. FOUR WEEKS LATER the car was ready for me. It was like the week before Thanksgiving, and snowing like a bastard the day I drove it home. So, of course I took it real easy the whole way. Put it right in the garage and waited for Spring.

When the weather broke, I took her out for my first real drive. Found a nice straight stretch of road and ran her through the gears. Only problem was, there was no second gear??? WTF happened to second gear??? The faggot that changed out the gears also changed out the trans and installed a fucked-up one in place of the good one originally in the car. Dr. Homo told me that there was NO WAY that could have happened and it was just my bad luck that the trans went bad. (In other words - I got your money, Fuck You).

As I proceded to mod the car, I also found out that there was a ton of bondo in it. It was very well done and hard to tell with the naked eye, but my magnet would not stick until it was almost up to the top of the rear quarters and nowhere along either rocker panel.

I ended up replacing the trans, driving it for the summer, and then sold it (at a loss) to a guy (sight unseen) out in Arizona.

Pics of Duster:

My kids are still pissed at me for selling it, they both loved riding in it. :frowning:

that duster was bad ass

i would of fixed the quarters

Nice duster, even the color combo flows well

that pos wont pull on me

Yep it was!

If that was the only thing wrong, I might have as well. There were a whole bunch of other problems including a bad vibration in the motor. After I realized the premium prices that are put on anything MOPAR related, I just decided to go back to Chevy.
