I went to a Kawasaki dealer on Thursday to look at an 05 636 and i was pleasantly surprised to see a Triumph Daytona 675 sitting in the parking lot. I hadnt even considered one of those when looking for a 600cc bike. Ive been doing some research into these today and they seem to do very well in any of the comparison tests but im not familiar with the “new” triumph. I know in the 60’s and 70’s Triumphs were known for oil leaks and vibrations but that was 40 years ago. Is anyone familiar with these?
i have ridden a few including the new one…they sound amazing and look great but honestly I dont like how they ride as much as kawi’s gsxr’s and honda’s…dont know about maint other than my buddy has an 07 and the thing has blown fork seals had electrical problems and a few other minor things…they dont rev as high or handle as well as kawi’s IMO…if u have a chance to pick one of these or 636…636 no question, every day of the week…i do love how the new 675’s look though but thats about it
theres a couple people on here with them, they are pretty quick and seem to be decent.
On the other side of things… pm ieatpaint about the article about them blowing up.
Stay away from the 07s find a leftover 08 or a new 09 the 09 are 7 lbs lights and make 3 more horsepowers. I’m not sportbike guy but it felt to me the same as a GSX R 600 in handling, the daytona seemed to have more pull. I work at a triumph dealer, I’m not goig to say something is better than another, because its all in the rider and how the bike feedback feels to them.
Look at opions, But dont buy off of them unless YOU feel its right for YOU.
Matince is pretty simple, change oil and filter.
Also, if you get an 09, dont ride with them tires in the rain.
I have one and have had zero issues with it. Amazing bikes, the best “cheater” out there. The 675 has a far superior powerband than any of the other 600 class bikes out there which makes it great on the track and amazing on the street. Being a 3cyl it is very narrow/light and super nimble. Oh, and they sound amazing. I have no issues with the ergos on the street even on longer rides, I’m about 5’10".
I can’t stand the stickers on the new bikes. Depending on what color you are looking for, I would say there is no reason to buy a new one. I bought mine brand new but only because you couldn’t find them for sale anywhere at the time. That is what I get for being impatient.
I should add, a big part of what drew me to it aside from performance (because all modern SSs are going to be more bike than most of us can every handle) was the aesthetics and rarity. I don’t see them everywhere, and you won’t see 900 clowns riding them with cages on one wheel doing laps on the super speedway every weekend.
Although the triumphs are outstanding Imo the 636’s are Bad Ass…I hate the fact they stopped making them.
I agree…
for the most part i agree with walter too.
the 675 had a horrible seat, esp compared to the 636
power wasnt any better, my 636 pulled on a 675… (636 wasnt stock)
I couldnt clutch up 2nd on the 675, the clutch just slipped, and it was a NEW bike.
now those are reasons to turn most people, including myself away. But I really liked my 636 and would much rather spend less and be happier.
I LOVED MY 636 IF YOU COULDNT TELL
What year 675?
And what oil…
A guy in my Ride with Pride course has a Daytona 675 (forgot which year, but want to say 07) and he too had clutch problems right after he bought it brand new from leftover stock. He ended up going back and just got a new one (which i think would have been an 08 then).
Will turns every bike thread into a 636 hump thread
Ilism <3
I like the styling of the 675, especially that blue with gold wheel combo, I almost bought one before the 636
I think the 636 is a great bike, but IMO, it still rides like a 600 class 4cyl. I almost picked one up on multiple occasions and I love the way certain years look. I love that certain years also came w/ a slipper from the factory.
I agree, speed wise all of these bikes are very similar. In the end it comes down to what fits you (comfort) and what you think looks good.
Def. buy a bike for comfort. You’re not going to be able to ride it to it’s full capabilities on the street, and probably not on the track either. I thought the seat was too hard on the 675, probably a little worse than the 600rr. 636 has a great seat, and if the gsxr 600 has a seat like the 1000, that was very very comfortable. I wasn’t impressed or disappointed with the r6 seat. Riding position on most sport bikes really isn’t too terribly different IMO. Every bike will have something you hate and many things you love.
03-05…The only years they were made. I have an r6 and I would trade it in a heartbeat for one. They amazing on the streets, but even better in the twisties/track. So goddam sexy too.
03-05 what?
03-04 B1H 05-06 B2H, they made the 636 for 4 years, the 03-04RR came with the slipper clutch as well as the 05-06 6R and 6RR. Definitely great bikes, I don’t think I will ever get rid of mine.
03-05? for 636’s? check your years again dude. they went to 06.
My bad I just realized that, anywhoo still badass. My buddy just picked up a leftover 07 silver and red, he said its nice but wishes he could of found an earlier year, regardless if it was new or not.
Tim nailed it
Sure did.
Um, first or 2nd year they came out… id imagine whatever oil came in them… and I rode another one that even had a pipe and ecu tuned.
He’s on here with the eclipse and delorean
I will agree though, cheater cc’s and a triple, give it more grunt than the I4 600s… which gives it a huge plus on streetability
