2009 Honda Civic Ex coupe 5 speed.
Are cold air kits and cat backs really worth it? Or just drop in K&N and replace muffler. Its just my daily driver and wanted to make it a little louder and if I gain a few hp or mpg thats great too.
If you’re only looking to make it louder… that’s easy. Go to Pep Boys buy a Chrome Exhaust tip, hopefully it comes with a few cool stickers. attach the tip to the muffler and then drill a few holes in you muffler… DONE!
Why would you want to make your daily driver louder?
you can make it a little throatier with a thermal exhaust system, and decent intake. I don’t know the specs on the hp. I had that on my 99ex, sounded decent.
Just remember, Louder isnt faster

Came with chrome tip from the factory. Don’t want it really loud, but I like to hear everything I own at least running. Its just too quiet.
I couldn’t find system for anything newer than 03 on their site. I like the way Greddy sounds on youtube and might get their titanium cat back and aem cold air kit.
Car isn’t meant to be fast. Small motor and no turbo. Just want it to sound a little better.
If you want it to be louder and gain some HP, you could just cut off the exhaust; that’s always an option. Would that be loud enough for you?

go with a thermal, greddy sounds raspy and ricy, if you’re gona do that, then just spend 15 bucks on a cherrybomb.
Couldn’t find a listing for a thermal for anything newer that 03. Listened to some different exhaust on youtube and I thought greddy was decent and has some adjustment thing, magnaflow was nice at throttle but didn’t like the at idle tone. I emailed thermal about my application and will wait for their response.

Yeah, it wont lift the tires and its not meant to be a racer. And didn’t see anything in you list of cars that could either except the jeep offroad.

they dont make thermal for the 06+ civics check out 8thcivic.com for more ideas and you should be able to find what most sound like
most people dont buy intakes for the new civics well atleast the si’s you gain just as much hp from removing the intake resonator and just putting a scoop on the end
i dont know if the lower end models are the same or not but that is worth a try i did it on mine and just kept the rest of the stock pipping and installed a k&n drop in and was pleased with the difference
