Outer tie rod removal?

Alright so I am in the process of removing my outer tie rod.

I have removed the cotter pin and the nut and I can not seem to get it to drop out.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to do. I’ve hammered on it and it still won’t come out and I don’t want to hammer much more in fears of bending things.

Any help is appreciated!

Well I solved the problem. Got it off with a bit more banging

when you slap the new one on do you need an alignment?

Yes I will need an alignment. Its not too bad right now so I can wait it out until I got those coilovers on there!

hammer on the spindle part where it connects too…it will drop. and u do need to hit it hard, use some WD-40 as well

i was thinking of changing out mine as well. I need new boots, so why not do everything if i am in that deep anyway right?

Yeah just get a good like 6 pound hammer, and whack away at the side of it and it will fall right out. At least thats how well it works on Dodges. If you have a decent sized hammer you should be able to get it out in a whack or two.

Yeah I changed one of my boots that was cracked as well. Besides the tie rod being a pain to get out it was a reasonably easy job

yeah you just dont want to damage the threads on the outer tie rod when banging it out … so keep the nut on so that there isnt any problems with putting it back on

aren’t you supposed to use a slpitter to take those out? :stuck_out_tongue: at least thats how we got out my buddy’s axle when we changed his clutch, use the splitter on the tie rods to pull the axle out

were do u buy the tie rods and lower ball joints? i need to replace these to pass oop

Nissan, or an autoparts store, or if you want fancy go tein or SPL’s.
