if you are at a car show, you are on private property and they can;t touch you. If they want they would have to wait until you move the vehicle. Also if you are emissions exempt they can’t do anything about it. (YAY FOR BEING EXEMPT AGAIN

How is it unfair? The bill only says “have some sort of muffler and don’t be louder than is allowed”. I think most enthusaists don’t have anything to complain about.
This is just like the PA tint laws. People read and interpet them how they want but never really read.
I’m just curious, what has changed? I agree that this is not that big of a deal and I don’t have a beef with it. Plus I really hope it does quiet down some of the harleys that are wwwaaaayyyyy too loud. Don’t confuse noise with power.
and how are they gonna know what smog stuff looks like on different cars? and besides, on my car all that shit is under the battery tray, you couldnt see it to begin with…
I agree with some of you, this is no big deal.
I think this bill is mainly because of idiot motorcycle riders that have open exhausts “so they can be heard”. What a load of crap. I’d love to see all those jerkoffs ticketed continously this summer. Maybe a few hundred bucks in fines will show them the errors of their ways.
Afermarket and custom exhaust systems will still be legal, you just won’t be able to exceed a certain db level with whatever system is installed on your car. The law does NOT require mufflers (those are a specific type of car part), the law requires a “sound supression device”. That means that you can install anything that quiets the vehicle down to acceptable limits. Turbos are considered a sound supression device as are resonators.
Also, being emissions exempt does NOT mean that you can remove smog equipment from your car. It still has to be present and hooked up they just do not test the car with a sniffer or plug in device. Anybody who has even “beaten” an emissions test knows that there are ways of doing it without all the factory parts working like they should.
Don’t get all worked up over this. We are hardly as strict with inspection and smog laws as California and I can’t see us ever getting near their zeal and idiocy.

I would like to see them pull out the books on my 70 GS and prove my exhaust isn’t legal. I actaully took the 3inch and headers off and put on flowed out manifolds and 2 1/2 inch with an h-pipe. much better for reliability, heat and bottom end. the 3 inch was just too big and didn’t fit the car like it should and the headers through off too much heat and would blow out gaskets too much. Try find header gaskets for a 70 buick…thank God for B & R
SNS, i wouldn’t jump the gun on thinking your car is safe. now the way the trooper explained it to my dad was that if a car was of certain age it and i was emissions exempt because of mileage then it would not be subject to a visual inspection, case in point my 85 SS. NOw your car on the other hand is in a different ball park because of its age, much newer. Plus it is still illegal, even on my 85 SS to remove the cat, that federal law.
Whats sucks about PA is there seems to be no clear cut answer on anything, i think every year with your registration you should get infomation on these laws and changes. I pretty much thou never have to worry about my GS until the time comes when gas engines are outlawed…hope thats not in my life time.
My cats arn’t removed / or gutted… I have a full exhaust with cats and a muffler. Its legal and they can’t touch me.
