Anyways, the paint was coming off on my wiper arms so I decided to see if I can make them look nice.
I took them off and bought some flat black paint, primer, and 2000 grit sandpaper.
I was planning to start off with 150 grit to get all the paint off and then use 400 grit to polish them up, but after spending 20 minutes and making very little progress with the 150 grit I said “fuck it” and got out my dremel with that sandpaper attachment it comes with, it’s even coarses than 150 grit (by a lot). This made the job go by pretty quick and I think it turned out nice.
After getting all the paint off, I primered the wiper arm for 2-3 coats, and sanded down any overspray with the 2000 grit. Then I put 3 coats of flat black on each (took forever to dry).
Here are the pics, comments please. Note that the pic with the flash you can see all the imperfections but from even just half of foot away it looks perfect…so it’s good enough for wiper blades IMO.
One thing that sucked is I wasted so much paint… since the blade is long and thin 95% of the spray is wasted oh well…
Good thing you used flat black. I remember painting my Nissan Pulsar’s wiper arms with regular black spray paint waaay back in the day…and let me tell you, glossy paint on wiper arms REALY sucks in direct sunlight!
I did the same to mine when I got my car… didn’t spend much time on prep and didn’t use primer either… Oh and only 1 THINK coat… they look almost as good… but being wiper blades like you said… you never notice unless you actually inspect the quality of the paint job.
And yours will probably last longer too, mine are still fine but its only been 10 months or so now I guess…
bump for a post to read when your bored, i need to paint mine too, im broke so all i been doing is paiting shit on my car cause i cant afford any real mods ahahahahah
Good thing you spent some time on it. I repainted the wipers on my beater cuz they were rusting like crazy, but I was lazy so I didn’t take the rust off completely, only the surface stuff; and yeah guess what it came back. Looks good.
