depends on the metal being welded compared to the filler rod, Anodize does add some thickness but a very small amount, it corrodes the aluminum as well as dyes it colors. I’m not sure about the thermo properties of anodized parts vs painted vs no treatment I’ve never had to deal with it on the team.
lol at you guys.
you guys are missing the obvious point that the surface area of the front of the intercooler is but a tiny fraction of the heat transfer surface of the IC as a whole. most of the heat transfer is INSIDE the core, not on the FACE.
anodizing it would not be a good idea, because most likely the part will be totally immersed and coated.
just use spray paint and spray the front. try not to let it get too far into the core.
Painting at an extreme angle with the direction of fins, using very light, dusting coats should not get to far in to the core.
I’ve painted a few IC black. You’d think you can just dust it, and it will be fine. It will look black off the car. But installed, when the sun is low, or headlights hit it.
It will stand out alum. So you need to get some paint in the fins so it doesn’t reflex inside the core.
In those cases for max snky.
just a FYI
but why? its still aluminum… just corroded
please to be teaching me something
i’ll see if i can dig up more
counterpoint: heatsinks are often anodized…
this is the only real concern I can think of… however I don’t think it’d be unpossible to a.) cap the I/O b.) run long silicone (or otherwise cheap & durable plastic) hoses off the I/O - long enough to keep them out of the bath
:gotme:
I was just going to spray paint mine.
but if you anodize the whole exterior, you cover the entire heat exchanger surface with the anodizing.
if you paint it, you only paint the front, thus you only cover a TINY fraction of the surface area.
I as talking bout the internal goodness, as in where the charge passes through.
okay, so what is the average effect he should be afraid of? I wouldn’t imagine coating the entire thing would drop efficiency very greatly. Also, I’m guessing tat we’re not talking about a high end top dollar competitive build here… is he truly going to miss those 8(?)whp? But thats a different discussion.
Again, just spray paint it.
Really?
What material does it add?
Is it magic pixie dust?
If you use color, it may add .0005".
I am quite certain that would be a bit thinner than rust-o-leam.
