PC Guys please help! HD CRASHED :(

OK, so my DELL Inspiron 9400 Laptop’s HD just crashed while I was sitting here using the computer. Ran Diagnostics and it proved to me the HD was gone.

Dell is shipping me a new HD and install CD’s under warranty…thanks god - and a new power supply since my cat chewed through this one

My HUGE issue with the whole shibang is that I [B]NEED[B] the information off my old hard drive. Who on here does data recovery or knows of an Inexpensive place to get it done. My collection of porn is priceless ! j/k, got tons of stuff from school that I need, and pics of my daughter as a baby ect… and porn LOL. Let me know guys THANKS! -Jack

Ha, my dell desktop did the same thing 2 weeks ago. hd crashed, so i took it to work and had the service tech guru’s take a look and they recovered most of my data and installed a new hd (160gb hd for $60 @ bestbuy). works great now! f*ck dell

there are various programs that can be used…a few that i am familiar with the geek squad uses…the only catch is you usually need another machine to put the HD in…there are instances where the HD won’t spin up at all though…ran into three during my time at best buy…froze(yes froze) the hd and it worked for about a good 10 minutes…long enough to recover what the customer needed off the drive…if you want i can take a look at it and see what the deal is and what if anything can be recovered

that would be great. It is a laptop HD so how am I going to put it in another computer?

eh they only way your ever going to get information off of that drive… I meen even if its possible… some times they make like a smaller IDE slot - > usb you can buy at compusa or from the manufactorer themselves… its a pretty shitty situation to tell you the truth

$500/mb data recovery

data recovery is retardedly expensive…

no joke

It’s not a big deal, you get the basic $7 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter and hook it up:

Assuming the drive isin’t completely trashed and just non-bootable you should be able to get stuff off of it. I have a pretty decent success rate with it myself.

what neon mike said is correct…i have that adapter already so save your $7. i have a desktop setup at my home that i use for data recovery and crap like that…

Does the hard drive click? If so put the hard drive in a zip lock bag and throw it in the freezer for 24 hours. During that time, grab a tool online called getdataback and go grab a USB enclosure for your drive. After the 24 hours is up, take drive out of the freezer and attach it to the USB Enclosure. Run Getdataback on the drive and extract the data you need.

My home dell did the same thing. HD was clicking and crapped out a couple weeks ago. Is it hard to replace the HD? I never mess with the insides of computers - that’s what IT is for.

As soon as it started making noise, I copied all my info to CD’s. So no need for data recovery.

the only way?

are you kidding? … i have a 2.5" ide to usb and use it day in and day out at work…

i dropped my laptop from chin height (sitting on a rack of ciscos)… drive was shot… nothing worked and it just clicked… well a big timer showed me how shit works and i was able to recover my data using SOFTWARE… so it’s possible, even if the drive is phyiscally beat on… you just mark those sectors as untouchable then windows won’t fuck up trying to read them… i recovered 30+GB from my 100gb drive without any issues using an ide to usb.

also, you can disassemble the drive and replatter the disks… i, in fact, know a local consultant that has a vaccum room and platter spline in his house… so there are options… but as pointed out… that can be pricey, so you better know what you are looking for and what is important.

step 1. is to get an ide to usb and to get a version of partition pro and call it a day.

How about you try whitey’s and sonny’s suggestions…and if that doesn’t work you send me a pic of all the stickers and what not that are on the drive and I’ll find one and I’ll swap the platters to try to recover it.

I don’t see how the data is going to be recovered using the drive. I think it is going to have to be taken apart. The HD crashed while I was using the computer…then wouldn’t reboot. It made a static noise(sounded like static coming through a speaker). Xlogik, when would you be able to give this a shot. I know right where you live

throw it in the freezer now unless you plan on being at my house for a while or coming back a second time for pickup. anytime your ready i have all the time in the world…i’ll PM you my cell # so you can just give me a shout whenever

but you also don’t know how harddrives are recovered… why do you ask something then contradict it when the entire point of this thread was you asking how a process works? I said that i dropped my drive in my laptop, while on, from 6 feet in the air and recovered all my data… :weak:

May sound kind of weird but if it is clicking as whitey said turn it on it’s side n reboot it,i tMAY work, mine did when the HD crashed becasue of the needle adn i simply booted it on it’s side to recover my info. And i mean put the laptop on it’s side. I still have yet to get a new HD for it,lol
