Photographer's pull up a chair.

If you want to shoot portraits I would highly recommend the Nikon 50 f/1.8. It is cheap, crisp, and super fast in low light. If you want on camera flash look for a nikon SB600, 800, or 900. Don’t forget to also pick up a diffuser for the flash.

I would ditch the Tamron it is coming with. It is $70 lense, and when it comes to glass, you get what you pay for. If you want a zoom, then the nikon 18-70 is your cheapest and best bet. You can pick one up for $400 on bhphotovideo.

I did lol at this ian haha

Im a realist. It is what it is

She is interested in learning more techniques for car picture taking, getting the right angles. She’s looking at learning more about lighting and things of that nature. She generally doesn’t like to take pictures of people… (she finds it boring), but she wants to get better at that since people are asking her to do small stuff for them…
And in general she wants to just improve her style and technique. Take it from just a side hobby to more of knowledgeable hobby/small side work…

tis exactly what i did in the past couple years, went from a hobby to doing photoshoots for indy films and tv show pilots. few events and such here and there. its coming along well so far though

Shooting cars sucks. Dont get me wrong its cool when done right, but to be done properly it takes a lot of styles and equipment that you wont use in really any other kind of photography, so that kind of annoying. Ex: You’ll need polarizing filters to cut the reflections, and on any kinda of good glass its going to be a large filter size. (expensive) Cars are really annoying to light with ambient, so you’ll need an off camera light setup, with strobes, triggers, stands, diffusers ext. Which again is very costly for something that works. I just find so much of auto photography boring, you really have to take it to the next level to make anything stand out, and that requires things like rigging, SUPER creative lighting, and extensive photoshop work. So just a heads up there.

this.
talk about hours on one photo.

If your not gonna do it right why bother…
