photo geeks, good entry level digital camera?

I’m looking for a new digital camera. Last one I owned was a canon powershot which worked great, but it didn’t have optical zoom or shutter speed control.

I’d like to be able to do have a decent amount of control over the photos along with the ability to change lens’s (if it’s not going to break the bank).

Any help would be cool. Looking for something in the 100-200 dollar range.

You can get a Sony H5 on ebay for about 200.

Took the pics here:

I’ve bought sonys two times in a row, and liked them.

I have a 5.whatever sony cybershot that I bought a few years ago that still takes great pictures.

hey bro i dont think ull be able to get an SLR that cheap… once u statrt getting into those and changing lenses then its more $$

$100-200 is kind of on the lower end of cameras. I’d forget about changing lenses and focus on getting a good camera. That’s just me though.

I’ve been toying with the idea of replacing my old Canon with a Nikon S600. 10mp so you don’t need much zoom, but it does have 4x optical. You might actually be able to use it too since it’s got Nikon’s VR optical image stabilization.

It’s about $200.

I recently bought a Fujifilm Finepix S1000 FD and love it. Only 2 draw backs. Its a little slower than, say a Canon power shot, and it takes AA battery’s. Other then that, it takes great pics for a point and shoot. So far, I am liking it more than my previous canon SD750.

It was a hair over $200

I like that Sony h5, but can you recommend something pocket sized that takes apx the same quality? I do a ton of travelling.

IDK a lot about digi cams, but i think part of the reason it takes such nice pics is because it has such a large lens diameter, smaller cameras usually don’t take pictures as nice, even with a larger CCD

Also the H5 has 12x optical zoom.

DSLR new $400+ Lenses additional

Sony is too proprietary if you ask me. Canon or Nikon for DSLR, Canon for point and shoot.

the cheapest DSLR you will probably find is a canon xt.

You can get them on sale sometimes for $300.

They are an older model but still better than any point and shoot.

I am a fan of both the sony and canon 12x zoom cameras for point and shoots.

I think you can get a D40 kit for like 500… might be worth it to go for something like that.

in my eyes thats an entry level…

I saw a D40 kit on slickdeals the other day for $380 and that’s the cheapest I’ve seen an entry level DSLR. The deal is dead now anyway.

I’m pretty sure I asked a very similar question a couple weeks ago and people suggested this camera:

EDIT:
Nope, I didn’t ask it, I was searching and found this thread which recommended the Canon SD line.
