Picard v. Painted Rotors

I searched and didn’t find this posted yet, apologies for the repost if it is…

:picard::picard::picard:

VW fail was so much better

 …i powdercoated mine. for real…but just the hat, not the wear surface.

:fu:

Which is better… the fact that he painted them like that, or that they went on a vette with a rim design that doesn’t even let you see the rotor.

He had to do something to show up the guy with the thunderbird with mismatched rims though. That’s a whole parking lot of fail.

Fucking LOL I didn’t even notice that.

Double :fu:

these internet car follies are getting less and less believable

I paint my rotors…black, and the paint comes off the wear surface the first time you apply the brakes.

Prevents the hat from rusting.

first thing i noticed.

I was going to say, it will just burn the paint off where the pads make contact. Who cares.

the only negative that i’d be concerned about, besides the laziness to mask is the pads getting gummed up w/ carbonized paint and not functioning properly.

I do not think it’s a good idea to let the pads wear off the coating…

However… these lotus rotors are zinc phosphate coated, but i doubt it’s more than a couple mils thick vs a whole bunch of paint.

Theres a guy with a honda 1000r for sale on here, his rotors look like they were painted red at one point. lol

It burns off and wears off immediately. The first couple stops are slow (as they usually are with new pads) but its absolutely no problem.

wouldn’t the rotors get hot and peel the paint off anyways?

edit: on the parts that don’t make pad contact

Grill paint is rated at 1200*F.
