RX-8 is just another model in the RX series. Just like the RX-7 wasn’t a replacement for the RX-3, neither is the 8 a replacement for the 7.
Mazda was SUPPOSED to be planning the release of a new RX-7 but it appears to have disappeared off the face of the earth. RX-8 is still not a “replacement”, it’s just a different iteration of a rotary powered coupe.
Half-doors + 4 seats is no replacement for two turbos and two seats. 
The point is they took away the RX3 and then they came out with the RX 7, then they took away the RX 7 and came out with the RX8 it’s the same line of car they just keep renaming it, one day when the RX8 will be gone they will come out with another sport car and name it the RX10 or RX12 or something.
