You mass out the wire, and the rivets, I bet it’s more then that…

Nope!

RX-8 is just another model in the RX series. Just like the RX-7 wasn’t a replacement for the RX-3, neither is the 8 a replacement for the 7.

Mazda was SUPPOSED to be planning the release of a new RX-7 but it appears to have disappeared off the face of the earth. RX-8 is still not a “replacement”, it’s just a different iteration of a rotary powered coupe.

Half-doors + 4 seats is no replacement for two turbos and two seats.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read that the rx-8 is just an experiment.

Actually it justed passed SHAKEN registration testing on the weekend. The Japanese auto ministry asked that the suspension be raised 2cm and removal of the rear spoiler. After registration completion, all adjustments were put back to there original state.

Who cars about extra mass. Realistically this car needs to be rigid in all aspects in order to compete in endurance races.

Rigid yeah, but extra mass plays an important part in acelleration and handling characteristics…

It’s called optimization, not overkill…

It will also help in a collision

better to be a little too strong … espically because that mass is odviously going to good use in firming up the car
