I flew down to Baltimore to tune 3 Supras with AEM EMS standalones over the weekend. It was a great trip. The tuning went beautifully and all the people down there were exited about the results.
A great start to the weekend. My ride from the airport. Benz S500. Now I see where all the money goes.
MKIV Supra turbo with a moderate single turbo conversion and auto tranny. This customer went through a nightmare with a big name Supra shop, had his engine rebuilt, and was having a lot of drivability issues. After tuning it starts, idles, and drives like stock, only FAST. It made full boost by 3800 rpm, giving it an enormous powerband. Max torque was at 4700 rpm with horsepower peaking just before his WOT shift points around 6750 rpm. Without brake boosting and giving his buddy in an S500 the jump on the highway we put a few buses on him in a matter of seconds…without downshifting.
Supra NA with single turbo kit, 5 Spd. This car was trailered up from Virginia because they couldn’t get it going at all on the AEM EMS. After fixing a bunch of wiring issues with the MAP sensor, wideband, grounds, etc. and some bad vacuum line placement it now starts, idles and cruises around beautifully. Unfortunately we found out his turbo seals and timing belt are in very rough shape, so I stopped once the car was drivable. After the mechanical issues get sorted out, I’ll be flying back to Maryland to finish this car and tune a few others.
Here is the wiring mess I was working with:
The third Supra wants to remain anonymous. I’ll just say that after I got him making about 25% more power than he had on his prior tune (at the same boost level) his RPS twin plate clutch couldn’t take it. :headbang: I have pics here at the shop. I just can’t post them on message boards as per the customer’s request.
If the owner of the red Supra gives me the go ahead I’ll add the dyno graphs. I should have some video from the dyno soon as well.
