Pinion seal... what's involved?

So driving my GTO like I stole it for 20000 miles has had it’s first casualty. When I was under there putting the new exhaust on I noticed some oil had been slung from the diff. Popped the plug off and the level is still right at the plug, but it’s wet enough that I know it’s leaking when I beat on it (pretty much all the time).

Anyone know off hand what’s involved in this and if any specialized tools are required? Going to install the GM repair DVD I got tonight and see what the official instructions involve.

PS… please don’t turn this isn’t some GM bashing shitfest. I don’t blame GM in the slightest for this based on my driving. In 20k I’ve been through somewhere around 6 sets of rear tires, so I’m well aware that I’m more to blame for this than GM. Pay to play.

Wow six sets? Nice.

One set were about 60% tread snows that I picked up used, but yeah… :mpd:

Wow, the DVD I got on ebay is amazing.
