While I agree that Satch and Vai are technically amazing, but the incessant shredding gets really boring to anyone other than a purist. Gilmour on the other hand, can make a simple 6-note blues minor scale sounds like it was drenched in feeling. Like BB King, his style was minimalistic but seething with emotion. THAT is what makes a guitarist stand out.
