Floyd is God. Sonically, they are up there with the best. Like Hendrix, they were doing stuff with sound, production and layers that was unheard of for the time. Between Gilmore and Waters, they had serious writing chops.
There are few bands or solo artists out there who have influenced me more.
Joe Satriani and Steve Vai were excellent guitarists but their music sucked. Gilmore was a good guitarist but his music wasn’t that good, IMO.
While I agree that Satch and Vai are technically amazing, but the incessant shredding gets really boring to anyone other than a purist. Gilmour on the other hand, can make a simple 6-note blues minor scale sounds like it was drenched in feeling. Like BB King, his style was minimalistic but seething with emotion. THAT is what makes a guitarist stand out.
Just because YOU (rednecktruck) do not like Floyd does not mean that they suck. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Still, your particular taste does not inspire confidence on your awareness of what constitutes musical talent.
