I don’t know if this is common knowledge yet, but I’ll put it out there.
Many businesses originally planned to go into the Mills have backed out. A few stores are getting ready to go under. They’re putting it up for sale, but I can’t see it going up for under $250 million (more than ten times what Simon paid for Ross Park, IIRC).
It’s a Boutique Mall in an area that is not subject to that type of shopping. The first time I walked in it when it opened I thought to myself “wow, this is going to work for about a year or 2, then everyone will get tired of it and it will shut down”
It’s just not the type of area for a mall like that. That mall would be alot better suited where Ross Park is or where SHV is.
It should. It is the type of establishment that would thrive in that area… And they are closing the Wal-Mart in Fox Chapel which makes it even better… Whomever had the idea to put a Wal Mart in Fox Chapel is a damn idiot.
i thought that place would do good alot of people i know go there all the time, that go kart track they have there, are you guys saying its not gonna open now?
well its pretty much like this. The mills mall isnt a Simon mall so they really dont have the reputation and the advertising that most malls liek robinson and south hills have. the stores are lame. I know Comcast pays 15000 a month just to have a kiosk in the mall. We lose so much money there everyday. After a few months the mall will be nothing but old mall walkers and the same old people comming there weekend after weekend. It will turn into a parkway center mall in the course of 6 months. Although I do like lucky stripe
nah they really do not have any good type of advertising. Like simon does. Its the same people every weekend. I gave up my shift there on saturday because I didnt make any money out of the mall. Same people every weekend I would see.
i though mills was cool. They had a hobby shop etc… in it. I kind f get sick of seeing the same old stores in Simon malls. Good luck to them for their attempt at some diversity.
When I lived in Kittanning I was pretty happy they were building it as it was closer than monroeville and ross park and I was thinking it would be bigger and better than clearview in butler.
When it finally opened I went there and checked it out. The good points were that it was new and as close to kittanning as butler.
But the bad points were, there aren’t any stores there I want to shop at. Mostly if I go to a mall I want to buy clothes. There are no stores there I would buy clothing at, in fact there were very few stores there I would buy anything at.
The lucky strikes is fine and dandy but why would I pay 10 bucks a game to bowl when I can bowl in kittanning for like 3 bucks a game.
If you are going to build a mall you had better be sure you can fill it with stores people want to shop at. Also there are no decent places to eat there either. or at least there wasn’t last time I was there.
I went there once and wasnt impressed at all. There were like two stores that I bought something in, and those stores are still at Century III Mall. I am not a big mall person though. I think the most impressive store at the Mills IMO was the one with the big fuzzy bean bag chairs
