ZING!
srs bsnss
threads like the modark thread are imperative to the future of an automotive forum.
Nyspeed would be alot better if it had half the rules every other forum on the internet had. We have the worse offtopic in history, you cant even make a serious thread, because the majority of the site cannot control themselves.
Its bad when even mods dont like the majority of this sites population.
The flaming rules from gen auto need to be expanded into offtopic, the derailing of threads rules also need to apply.
Who cares if you can edit posts or delete them?
I love going back thru my forsale adds and deleting bump 10 times and then bumping it again, it keeps the thread information on one page, such as price updates ect.
Worse is there has never been an explination to why its so serious buisness, just a whole bunch of beating around the bush.
How about nyspeed becomes a car forum? that would be cool for 2010.
Meh, people don’t appreciate this site for what it is. There are a lot of incredibly useful people on this site that are willing to help you with what you need, so long as you ask in a coherent manor. Most of the drama starts from shit that would cause drama on any site, not just this one.
I don’t necessarily agree with all the rules or whatever, but then again I’m not going to get all pussy hurt over a car forum. A good portion of the members complaining about the site say people shouldn’t take the internet so seriously, even though they are the ones going nuts over a few simple guidelines.
I agree and disagree. There is a ton of people that add to this site. But there are those that use this site as a time waster for their lives. I visit other forums on a daily basis, I don’t see 1/4 of the drama there that I see here. I can’t even recall a time where i read a post in which someone criticized another posters grammar or spelling.
Go visit dsmtalk, they lock threads if you do not capitalize the word I, or do not Capitalize the first letter of every sentence. Some sites are rediculous.
Even if it was a thread like newmans bmw one, they would lock it for incorrect grammar in the OP.
I personally love that people get on you about grammar. It’s hilarious. And for the people that suck at it, it’s a good lesson. But obv not everyone thinks that way.
Are the other forums that you are on made up of mainly local people? I find that national sites are much more to the point. A huge portion of the members here know each other on and off the site, often times having met because of this site. I know that I would not have met some of my best friends if not for NYSpeed.
And I’ll %100 agree that some members really are just here to use it as a chat room…
Would they ban you for spelling ridiculous wrong?
lol
In reference to the “other forums” comments. This is NYSpeed, not hondaboi.com or mercedessnob.com
That being said, we have a local member base and one that is comprised mostly of people that share some form of interest in cars. We do not feel the need to regulate this like a national board, but we also do not want certain sections to go to shit. Do I typically give a fuck what you do in Off Topic? Nope. Do I care what you do in Gen Auto? YES! Why do I care? Because we have certain members that come here for automotive info specifically and do not need the hassle of digging through BS to find it. Do I care what happens in classifieds? YES! We are providing a means of sale and money exchange. That does not need to have drama and BS in it as it is a transaction and not a kicking the tires conversation.
I am not even going to continue. I am sick of explaining the same shit to the same few of you that don’t get it. In the end, if you do not like how it is run or the rules that are in place go ahead and make your point ONCE, if it is dismissed then let it be or GTFO. We are restructuring the entire community based on feedback, revamping the rules, EVERYTHING. It takes time to work out things and implement change. Deal with it.
One last note to the beating around the bush remark on editing. WE HAVE SAID REPEATEDLY that we are changing it for reasons of:
- People bringing shit upon themselves and then deleting the original post to run and hide from the storm they called in.
- ALL of us are sick of having to clean up your garbage. That is not my job nor is it the moderators. I am never going to have to see another “Delete ME” thread, and that makes me very happy!
- The next time you say something retarded, someone can go grab your last retarded post that you couldn’t edit or delete and maybe you will realize your IQ is equal to the primate in my avatar.
- We are adding in a “Help Desk” system that will open tickets for all of the staff to see and act upon. If you need a change you will just submit a ticket and the first staff member to get to it will make the change IF it is a warranted edit. So in reality we are not dumping the edit ability, just shortening the window that you can do it without intervention and approval.
nyspeed is smarter than most
my spell check came on and i still didnt feel like fixing it:shoot:
but yes if i was the op the thread would have been locked lol
i also do not care what happens in OT, most of the time the members can regulate itself and use some sort of reasoning of when going way off topic is “acceptable” and when it is not
it is really annoying in gen auto and other parts of the forum though…
No editing or deleting posts = more work for mods?
:io:
So if something is put up for sale and lasts like 4 months and is sold, what is done to the remaining SOLD thread?
Is it deleted?
Is it locked?
or just left alone?
When things are sold we typically lock the thread.
as soon as the OP goes back and changes the thread status to sold I go in and lock the majority of them. every now and then one will slip by but i usually get them all.
Like using manor instead of manner
too bad only a very few people change it from “FOR SALE:” to “SOLD:” :picard:
God dammit. lol
I’m a mod on IWSTI, we use that same system - it’s extremely easy and awesome.
