Last time I checked, like 1% of this country owns like 99%. I can’t make a difference. My opinion doesn’t matter. The rich and powerful will make sure of that. I got my own problems in life. I’ll let others deal with saving the world. Sorry, it’s how I see it.

Please provide me with some facts/evidence where a lobby group has lobbied for a radical change that was meant to help our country and actually gotten their desired result. I haven’t seen any in recent memory. All I see is more and more stuff being allowed. If you call that winning/achieving a good result, that’s fine. But I don’t see it helping this country any one bit.
‘Helped’ our country is one of those opinion thingies, so therefore it is up to you to decide what ‘helps’ our country.
Lobbyists and people expressing opinions affect every. piece. of. legislation. Every one. Our latest health care bill, cash for clunkers, the bailout, Roe v. Wade, WWI, the Declaration of Independence… Everyone lobbying for each one of those believed that they were helping the country. Were they? That’s an OPINION.
As far as things being ‘allowed,’ do you mean more spending? That’s the American way lately. Want to change it? Express an opinion.

I don’t see voting, lobbying, etc. making a difference. It’s been going on (people voicing their opinions) for years and years, and yet we’re getting into a bigger and bigger hole. So tell me who’s winning. Either the lobbyists are lobbying for the wrong things (causing this hole), or the lobbyists are being ignored (causing this hole). That’s all I see. Perhaps I AM wrong, but that’s what I see.

Exactly. Nobody here on shift, or anyone I know personally will have a shot in hell to make a difference. Now take that 1% that actuall can make a difference, and divide that up by how many people are in that 1%. Now you know damn well, they dont agree and will not settle on anything to help out the 99% becasue it will take a little of what they have away if they do.

How can they represent you if you don’t voice how you feel on what there about to do. THIS is why writing letters, phone calls, and public protesting is very important. If that 99% shuts up then the pressure off the politicians is gone and they WILL do whatever the fuck they want. WE the people are what keep them at least somewhat in check.
of course they do a lot of things regardless because you elect them along with there party’s agenda.

Didn’t I say that? That’s my main qualm with ‘voicing my opinion’ to the Government. No matter what, there is always an agenda which I didn’t ask for (or we didn’t ask for). THAT is what makes it a waste of effort in a lot of regards. They can, and in many ways do, do whatever the hell they want.

Can you honestly say with all certainty that some of the ‘agendas’ by the people we vote in (no matter who it is or which election period) aren’t personal agendas and are in fact agendas of other voters? EVERYONE has a personal agenda. If you disagree with this, then you need to take a sociology class PRONTO. There is not ONE politician who is working JUST for the people. Some are working for the people and themselves, some are working for themselves and barely for the people, and some are just working for themselves and pretending to work for the people.
If you honestly think “all politicans do is what the people ask/brought up to them”…I am sorry, but I just do not buy that. That’s wishful thinking at it’s finest.
And if people really care, they don’t get elected again. GREAT! Guess who replaces them? Another person who gets voted out because of some OTHER issue. It’s a never ending cycle. You will never find a politician who will work in the publics best interest 100% of the time and find a medium that pleases the vast majority of the population. I just don’t buy that train of thought. Call me retarded, call me ignorant, I don’t care. I don’t buy that crap. All politicians are crooked in one way or another. I’m done with this thread.
