Were the hell is my power steering fluid located… i can find the cap any ware… it says in the book its low in the engine compartment near the coolant reservoir. me and my friend looked for about 30min and could not find it any place… any help would be appreciated .

now that that’s over with. It’s under the alternator

:io:

shouldn’t there be a sticker that locates it too?

don’t feel bad though, it always takes me a few mins to find the wash fluid filler on the goat even though I’ve used it before

yup…under the alt. almost against the firewall. Get a fullen with a 2’ hose to connect to the funnel and stick the other end in the resv. or you’ll never make more than half of the fluid into the resv.

Better question- why does an 05 need PS fluid? leaking?

i wasn’t sure if it did or not. every now and then when i accelerate i hear a noise that sounds like a bad power steering pump. you know that whining noise it makes. and no its not the supercharger i am fully aware of what that sounds like. but like i said i don’t hear it when i turn its only when i accelerate and it doesn’t make the noise all the time

probably your transmission

how loud is the noise…belts cracked or need 2 be changed…is it a whiney noise, scraping noise, hissing???

Thats not your power steering. I would’nt be too surprized if it was the alt. bearings. I like me my GM cars but, cripes those alt.s bearing dont last.
Not saying for sure thats what it is but, maybe.

I didn’t think power steering would make any sound in a straight line. I had no power steering on my van and that would only whine when I turned…

its not the belt. and it like a whining noise… it sounds just like the power steering when ur low on fluid only its doing it when i go in a straight line when i accel

mine did that too WOT? I think it was the timming belt?

ok update… still making the noise but now today on the way to my hockey game my check engine lite went on… any place around niagara falls/wheatfield/north tonawanda that will read the code and let me know whats wrong?

I didnt really read your post before. On the noise:
take the SC belt off, start the car… still have 5he noise…
take the acc belt off, start the car (don’t drive it for like 5mins, just let it idle a min)… still have the noise…
look at the accs, spin them, any noise or hard spots. Check the pulleys for slop or play.

If everything is fine, check the PS fluid level like shawn said. But look in the res. and see the fuild level. Its a pain but lay on the motor, and look down there with a light. And make sure its not just foam, if the fluid is low it will foam. And the foam level will still show up as a “normal” on the cap level wand.

Same for the trans, the pump will whine when the fluid is low and foams. If anything on a modded GP (any gm fwd really 4t60/65 trans) your going to do burnouts, in the snow or dry. Run the fluid level at Max, or just under.

I’m in rochester, long drive for a scan. Not sure if AZ still reads them

i could help you out but I wont be home tonight
