Bump.
So I finally got a remote start in my car and decided I wanted a way to open my garage door from my phone so I could remote start my car while I was getting ready in the morning without having to run down by the front door and hit the garage door opener. I know, first world problems. Anyway, I added a MyQ smart garage door module and it works great:

It also happens to be the one that supports Amazon key. After some back and forth about the sketchiness of letting Amazon into my garage I said screw it, Iāve got cameras, if they take something out of my garage Amazon will just end up paying me for it. I gotta say after a month of deliveries itās pretty damn cool. I get a notification that it will be delivered inside my garage the morning of the delivery. Then more notifications when theyāre 2 stops away, delivering, and that itās been delivered. Plus MyQ sends me a notification when the door opens and when it closes. It seems like Amazon tries really hard to make my deliveries āby Amazonā vs UPS/FedEx/USPS since I got it too because I havenāt had a single non-Amazon delivery since.
There have been a couple stumbles, mostly my fault. Once I was home and ran out as the guy was walking back to the truck. As the door was closing I stuck my foot in the safety beam and made it go back up so I could grab my package. The guy had to walk back and type something in on his phone to close the door again because theyāre not allowed to leave until they get the door closed confirmation. I apologized and said I was new to this and guy was cool about it. The 2nd time I was working in the garage when the guy showed up so the door was already up. He wasnāt sure what to do and asked if it was ok if he closed the door. So I stood there in the garage while the door closed then opened it back up when I got the "door closedā notification.
I have one as well, although I havenāt really used it much for Amazon. I just got tired of the shitty keypad not recognizing button presses. Did you get an Amazon credit for using key? I was supposed to but donāt think I ever did. It was a promotion offered at the time when I purchased the myQ
I also have a myQ opener.
I almost never use the app.
Generally my family is locked inside the house and with the ring doorbell, I can make sure they donāt leave.
I have not had any real divery issues other than the occasional toss from a few feet away.
My wife usually has a basket of shit out though.
We order A LOT of shit and she leaves out water, Gatorade and snacks.
I saw the thing about getting a credit and never followed up on it. Iāve never had a problem with porch pirates (and get 3-4 deliveries a week) but I hear about it all the time on the Nextdoor app so figured I might as well set this up.
Weāre lucky in our neighborhood, not really any reports/incidents that Iām aware of. I have a ring as well, itās super nice and I feel like it holds the delivery people accountable. Never used the myQ as it seems unnecessary.
Are you on Nextdoor? If youāre in any of the first ring suburbs I find it hard to believe itās not happening around you. It might not have happened to you yet but itās happening everywhere in WNY.
This thread reminds me to check with the DAās office about the dude who was arrested for our theft.
I am not, that app is first world toxic lol.
This is going off strictly by knowing my 6-7 immediate neighbors well though, Iām sure itās happened. All houses on our block have side mudrooms and 99% of our deliveries are placed in there so there isnāt much being left in the open.
Edit: installed the app, had to go back to almost Christmas to find a post where a women was asking about porch pirates. Other than that, nothing but people bitching about dog poop and cars driving too fast.
This is literally my HOA Facebook page my wife tells me all the stupid shit people post.
Iām guessing like 1000 a year? @JayS I love the suburbs too but 6k a year on a 180k home still makes me sick to my fucking stomach.
Itās honestly just NY as a whole when it comes to taxes.
You can contact UPS and ask them to leave a package in a certain area. Every time they scan a package for your address a message will display, that prompts the driver to follow instructions. Lots of addresses are flagged with special delivery instructions, that way you donāt have to worry when a different driver is filling in for the regular guy.
4/13 at 2:45am. Looks like they are going around 2-3 people in a car with a driver checking cars for unlocked doors both on the street and driveways. They have been leaving me alone ever since I put a 6ft tall wooden fence/gate going across my driveway.
-Car passes and turns around. (More than likely scoping out the area)
-minute later, 2 people can be seen going down the street checking out cars, then running back to the car they traveled in.
Oh man, you have no idea how badly Iād like to try out my new Primary Arms 1-6x LPVO.
Good thing about my street is that itās busy enough and police use it as a cut through that no one dares this in our neighborhood. I check my Ring and Nextdoor weekly and there is NOTHING happening in our āhoodā.
Iām about 4 streets from the city line. Also have a lot of section living right on Kenmore Ave. However, this usually happens 1-2 times a year. Kenmore police presence is pretty heavy at night usually. Cops pass my house like 2-3 times a night/early morning and Iām not on a busy street at all.
Meanwhile my street is so dead I check my camera each morning and the last hit of movement I have is around 9:15pm and then nothing until about 6am when the early birds start going to work.
I mean⦠aside from the occasional police car driving by and a paper person driving by in a van in the middle of the night, we usually have nothing as well. Like I said, maybe 2 times a year. Being that they are now using a car to get around like this, things may be changing for a lot of people this year and seeing a rise in crimes. Thankfully majority of what goes on with this is just checking for unlocked cars. Keep your car locked and they just move on.
Just had my first porch pirate incident.
FedEx delivery of my Bills jersey at 2:12pm, stolen from my front porch between 2:12pm and 3:45pm.
New Ring camera installed in the front now.
I swear Iāll fucking kill the next person.
That sucks.
Maybe try airsoft vs hollowpoint though.
You sure it wasnt fedex? We caught fedex marking a bills jersey delivered and they never showed. We have cameras all over the property. Called Dicks and they sent another jersey and filed a claim against fedex.
