Possible fried starter motor..?

I wired up my new alarm starter at work didnt have time to finish it. None of the wires were ever live i didnt have fuses in them. I copyed a diagram of how to wire a relay for the romote start because we have 2 starter wires. One of the wires coming off my relay is grounded and 2 of the wires from the relay go to the starter wires…Maybe i toasted the starter this way. anyways car started 1st time drove home and noticed my voltmeter was acting up…its usually constantly around 14v drops a bit when the system hits hard and now its running at 12ish idling but when the system hits it drops well below 12v. get home turn car off go to restart it and it wont turn over…all i hear is the relay under the dash flick and thats it. I push started it and it works so its sumthing with the starter. I cant find any fuses related to the starter. How do i troubleshoot from here knowing its my starter? Ive tried pusling 12v to the starter wires does nothing other than turn the lights on as if im about to start the engine. Im desperatly in need of help ive got a van to get to work tom then after that im screwed…it takes 2 ppl to get my car rolling enough to jump start it…so i cant do that on my own. What am i looking at as for replacing this starter? hard? thanks

i have the same problem. my starter is fried. its sittting in the shop now. i hope this isnt a costly repair. anyone have any info as to howmuch this will hurt?

You are looking at about $150-$250 for a new starter.

i took a closer look is see one black with yellow stripe wire coming out of a whack of wires into a clip then the wire changes to black with a white stripe…Funny cuz Black with yellow is one starter wire and the other (black with white) is the other starter wire under the dash…i even cleaned off the wires to make sure i wasnt seing things…but anyways…that is the only wire i see visable going to the starter other than the big ground. Seems pretty simple? this tru just a simple constant ground and a 10-12 gauge 12v wire which is given power when the key is fully turned??? I gave the wire going to the starter at the clip 12v still does nothing…whacked it a few times nothing…its held on with two bolts at the back of the engine seems simple enough to change. will 91-94s work on my 89? Thanks. Ill post a WTB…Spike has 2 for 40 bux quite a ways tho i need it by tommorow!!

I have a starter at my house if you are intrerested

There should be 3 wires going to the solenoid on the starter.

Ground, Power (both larger bolt/nut/eyelet) and Signal (spade connector)

Now, with the car in neutral (or park, depending on trans) with the parking brake on (or something blocking the wheel)

Turn the key to the ON position.

Take a long screwdriver.

Jump the big red to the little spade.

If the starter is good, it will try and start. Expect a lot of sparks, but don’t be scared.

If it won’t jump, and you’re sure there’s power to the starter (sparks would be your first indication)

Clean all the leads too, make sure the connections are good.

Don’t worry about wire colors. Nissan was smoking the good crack when they settled on wire colors.

Of course with a bum starter you should always try the B.F.H. technique first.

Cant forget the obvious; try giving your battery a little boosting.

anyways, arent the electrical connections with theose remote starters are connected to your ECU or some computer curcuit? Just make sure your remote strarter has its own individual power and ground.

Most people install this stuff on automatics so maybe something clutch related here? like a some swcich around clutch u had ta go over?

Sold him one that i had, and the car is running now.

Ohh yea. Cars running starter off spike worked flawlessly fixed romote starter wiring…i messed up with the ignition and primary starter wire…according to “Magic Wiring” diagrams which is a paid for product the wirings boinked as well as SHIFT_KA24DET’s.
http://www.son240sx.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9177 only a few wires are actually wrong like one starter wire…its really black w/t green stripe on my 89. Im asuming SHIFT_KA24DET’s used the same or simmilar software tool at bestbuy or futureshop(cant rem which on u work at…Best buy i belive) and didnt check and double check the wires…tsk tsk…i didnt either  but hey i fried a starter if it makes u feel better.
