Starter Wiring F'd?

I think my starter wiring/solenoid is f’d in my DD civic, and as a result, the starter is acting shady.

Sometimes when I try and start the car, it won’t turnover, yet all the lights go on. I hear the fuel pump turn on also, but the starter doesn’t even tick or anything.

After awhile; a few minutes and a few tries, it’ll turnover with no problem and I’m on my way.

Do you think the wiring for the starter is f’d? Possibly a loose connection on the battery or somewhere? Am I probably right?

Starter relay?

Could be overheating causing it not to work.

check for loose / corroded connection.

take it off and have advanced / azone test it for free.

If it’s not even clicking then it’s something in the solenoid and not the starter itself. It could be a starter relay. It could be shitty wiring somewhere in the start circuit itself. It could be the ign switch, too.

There isn’t much in the starting circuit.

Battery -> fuse -> switch -> relay -> solenoid.

If you can, next time it does it, get someone to hold the key ON and check the voltage on the SOLENOID wire. If you have voltage there, it’s the starter solenoid. Sometimes the solenoid itself actually sticks. I used to have to beat on my VW stater to free up the solenoid.

don replaced the starter for me last year about this time, meh. i’m assuming the starter is fine, just the connections / wiring

Will do, I’m sure as shit it’s going to happen again today, so I’ll get our contracted electrician out to help me ( not like he does anything anyways ).

wiring or solenoid.

what newman said.

i cant remember :cry::cry:

no, i was blaming the wiring or solenoid based on the starter being new.

Sweet. That’s what I thought originally.

with the hole you have/had in your exhaust… check to make sure it’s not exhausting directly onto the starter or its wiring.

ide be willing to bet its just a wire come loose. Happened on mine a while back.

to check wiring is simple. someone needs to get under the car with a test light. while someone turns the key see if it gets power.most likely its something with the starter/solenoid very commen for it to not do anything at all.

Same thing would happen to me on my 4000 Quattro, it was the wires that went to the selonid. Cut them out, re-soldered in some new fresh wire, and have not had an issue ever since. This right here is reason # 243097548290750892475823475893475698073309 why standards are better than auto tranny cars, you can always just pop the clutch to get it going. hell, I drove around for about a year with a non working starter in one of my cars.

im just gonna do the voltmeter shit later.

the hole in my exhaust was too far down to be exiting into the engine bay.

i’m expecting it to be the solenoid, now just to find one for less than $40.

is the solenoid on hondas serviceable? I thought it was one unit w/ the starter?

its not its on the starter. its not even worth just replacing the solenoid anyways

i’ve seen solenoid’s sold for my model car. i’m assuming i can swap them out if necessary. if not? fuck.

I have a 2x4 in my car i’ll use to whack it now and then till i get around to fixing it.

fuck, really? i just took a look and it seemed like i could work on it. FUCKING DON!

doesnt this starter have a warranty anyways?
