Possible Wiring Issue, or Two Different Problems?

My intermittent wipers sometimes work on the intermittent setting (one pull down on the wiper control), and sometimes they don’t work. I can have it on the intermittent setting, and have them just stop working (the wipers still work on the low & high settings though), or have them not work at all on the intermittent setting. Possible causes?

Another issue concerns my driver’s side DTRL. I put new bulbs in, and they burn out quickly. One burnt out bulb had a white residue inside it, another had a blacker residue.

Could some crazy wiring issues be the cause of both of these problems, or are they two different problems that could not be interrelated?

The wiper problem sounds like a case of a bad switch. Chances are the contacts are just worn out or the switch is toast. Does it work if you turn it on and off a bunch of times, or fiddle with it? If so, replace it and problem solved.

Well, I usually just drop the switch down to the first setting when I need to use the wipers for a short time (ie. one or two clears), so that switching from on to off using the first setting (intermittent) would be used a lot. I’ve tried fiddling with it, but if seems to have a mind of its own, and work only occasionally.

I can have the intermittent mode on, and then it just stops. That alone sounds like a weak signal that’s getting interrupted somehow?
