BRO, youre missing the point, if the postal service makes a profit that means they charged us, the public more than they needed to for their services.
i paid for 2 day shipping to send injectors to albany and it got there in 4 days
i paid for 2 day shipping on a turbo to philly and it got there in 15 days
post office can go fuck it’s self. Do you know how fucking annoying it is getting 4 emails a day for 15 days from someone ?
tracking number? insurance?
LOL this is the best thing I have read all day
But don’t worry, the USPS is a great example of how a well run government option can coexist with private industry (fedex, UPS). /Obama
i had tracking on both. I Don’t put insurance on anything unless the buyer wants to pay for it. Sending out the package is my only obligation
i sent out 2 packages to hawaii a week ago, cant wait to see how long that takes to get there lol
edit: this is the tracking number for the albany 2 day shipping package: 0309 1830 0002 0805 9631 . look at the shipping route
I was just thinking today when I saw the newscast, when was the last time I bought a book of stamps? I used to go through a book of them in a few weeks, now I only need stamps for holiday cards. I wonder how much online bill pay hurts them.
I still use them for packages though.
Perspective:
At $3.8 billion dollars, the entire postal system cost us 0.17% of our budget in 2009. If the healthcare system could be run like that then sign me up for a single payer system.
+1 I can get stuff to washing state days before UPS/Fedex and for less.
Tracking is great, but do you really need to know what hub every single package arrives at?
I gladly, give up information to get my stuff days sooner.
Sure, I guess. But I would rather see them be self sufficient and have money to put back into the system (pay down deficit or to charity, whatever) than it constantly run in the red and cost us, the public, money.
It doesn’t cost us anything, at least right now. It’s the same as a company operating at a loss for the year. They covered it out of their own cash flows. The postal service has not received any money from the government or taxpayers since 1988…they are self sufficient.
cutting wages is never the anwser is it.
No you shouldnt make 20 + $ an hour to stand behind the counter and weigh my package.
one might think you would be a proponent of a low level education career where you can support a family.
Also, I’m dont believe the clerks make good money. The carriers make a lot, but those are different.
i dont know if it was the clerks, or the actual carriers, but there was a help wanted sign at one of the post offices starting at 16$ an hour, it may be the sorters in the back… i dont know
Man, that’s real hard to believe if they went through 09 with 3.8B in loss and they haven’t made a profit since 1787. Something just doesn’t add up.
It was because they had to dump 5.5B into a trust to cover future pension liabilities. Accounting losses /= cash losses.
honestly, there should be some sort of certification you need to have in order to discuss/debate finance with joe.
But really, IF it’s a coherent argument, like this one, I don’t mind at all.
I try.
same thing with me and phones.
