Postal Service Ends 2009 with $3.8 Billion Loss

I was thinking almost the same thing.

Government run= check
pro union= Check
successful/profits= nope

It makes me feel all warm inside.

:picard:

Right, and our banking system, automotive industry and farming are all picture-perfect examples of the efficiency and success of private industry.

The USPS provides a critical service, and as we’ve seen with the above examples, when private industry fails in providing a critical service, the government steps in to save it, anyway.

Do you think UPS and FEDex could do it better? I can pay 44c to send a letter anywhere in the contiguous US in 2-3 days.

You guys are missing the bigger picture.

Just dissolve government altogether and the post office is no longer a problem.

the postal service didn’t lose 3.8 billion, they cost 3.8 billion to run… image if the military only cost 3.8 billion to run, that would be amazing.

but anyway… looks like they are slashing more jobs:

Mixed feelings on this.

I can’t imagine how hard it is for them to stay on top of their game with technology advancing the way it has. How much of their revenue was generated by simple letters in envelopes 20+ years ago that is now being overtaken by e-mails, online bill paying, etc…?

What else can they do before they start cutting back so much that it ultimately destroys the convenience factor they bring to the public?

Ugh, you do know the law regarding postal trucks correct?

postal drivers have more right away than police with their siren on because it is a federal vehicle

NOOB!!!

We can do whatever we want :D. I’m a carrier in Tonawanda.

Exactly.

You disgruntled drivers can do whatever the hell you want behind the wheel.

EDIT: …legally. As long as it doesn’t involve raping a minor or running over gramma you’re in the clear.

When they drop saturday service that will bridge the gap.

People in my age group are not mailing paper bills with stamps anymore.

My girlfriend bought a book of stamps when it was the “forever” postage or whatever. This was like a year ago. We still have half the book left.

I jump on my bank online bill-pay and pay 10 bills per month at least. In previous generations this would have been stamps and envelopes.

No shit the postal service isn’t making money!

The only thing that I mail anymore is those stupid mail in rebates from office max on electronics!

i use usps for shipping alot of packages, got sick of high costs of ups and never really had a fedex around me

i cant count how many times ups has f*cked me on a package

That’s all fine and dandy that it’s legal for them to ignore the rest of the world when they are behind the wheel, it still doesn’t change the fact that they suck at driving.

I got hit on my bicycle by a postal truck when I was like 10. The driver stuck his head out the door to see if I was getting up, then he took off. Fucker bent my wheel.

then he went WOT with his muffler delete mod and hit vtec

Yes you are right. Every carrier in the US is a terrible driver.

Well right hand drive is mad jdm yo

:mamoru: You’re right it’s probably just a WNY thing

i ordered another item from TX on monday at about 4pm EST. The part will be at my house by noon today using priority shipping.

Pretty damn quick shipping :gotme:

:tif:

so you want a postal service tax?

Dont worry im sure they would spend your extra money in a way that benefits you more than if you spent it yourself :bowrofl:

Every dollar they make comes from the public…

right away???
