I purchased a new home and moved from my apartment to the home (both in Texas) December 1 2009.
I had my mail forwarded from my parents home to my apartment at the end of august. USPS specifically says mail forwarding lasts for one year.
I then had my mail forwarded from my apartment to my home, again supposed to be good for one year.
Somehow all my mail gets to my home fine ever other day for the most part, but packages do not. I asked why I only get mail ever couple days and they have no idea. Ok w/e. Now onto two recent packages…One package ended up at my parents house in Buffalo and one was sent back to the place I ordered it from for no apparent reason. When I called and talked to them they said it was because of my forwarding, even though both packages were addressed to my new house. WTF? I ask how that can be, and the lady on the phone doesn’t even know why.
I also hate the post office because of their stupid systems. When I went to get my passport it took 25 minutes longer then it should. I don’t want to see you take all the copies, staple them together, place them into an envelope and file it. Do that when I’m gone, Jesus.
You need a birth certificate license and pictures to receive your passport. Those are all government issued ID’s! Why can’t you go online, check a box, pay a fee and receive it? The government already has all your information on file, they can pull it up. Ugh
I can now see why postal workers go postal. If I had to work at a post office and watch a bunch of retards follow retarded polices I’d go insane too.
:suicide:
PS: I’ve never had a problem with FedEx, UPS or DHL.
a few months ago i changed my address. after a few weeks, im receiving no mail, except from school where i had changed my address to the new place.
so after a few weeks of not getting any mail besides stuff from school i go there and was like WTF, i changed my address, i filled out the paperwork here and handed it in, where is my mail.
they get a manager and he comes over and says, “oh ya, you filled out a photocopied form bc we ran out of the originals. we couldn’t submit the photocopied form for address change” WTF?!?! you photocopied it and gave it to me, and if it didn’t go through, you prob have my phone number, you MOS DEF HAVE MY NEW ADDRESS, CORRECT?!?! you could have at least let me know the form i filled out, that you gave me, wasnt usable. the fuck
oh, then when i was like “ok, where is my mail that was never delivered?” he said “oh, its not here. dont worry i talked to the carrier, it wasnt anything important”
why dont you just get a permanent “moved” address thing, instead of forwarding your mail
edit:
i dont really get this… but all mail that is addressed to your parents home, is redirected to your new home right?
shouldnt packages that are addressed to your house get there anyways? that doesnt make sense…
Oh for my passport I had my birth certificate, license, pictures from Walgreen’s, and the online form filled out, correct 100%, and printed in color, and it still took my about 1 hour. All I did was sit there and watch them do stupid shit.
Moved several times in a short amount of time. Changed my address with USPS and with whatever I had subscriptions to or whatever. No problems.
My problems with UPS are when I have things being delivered and they leave the shit on the front steps in the snow and don’t knock on the door or ring the doorbell. I have a front porch that doesn’t get snow on it! Open the front door and put the shit on the porch damn it!
I’m glad it is, but why do I need to sit in a post office while a man copies, fills out envelopes, prints documents, prints orders, stuffs envelops, files them, then after 30 min of bull, gives me a reference number and a receipt?
I didn’t do one constructive thing working towards the document, I just waited for mister post office man to do his job. They should reference numbers ready, bill you, copy your driver license and be gone. I’ve test drove $100K cars in less time haha.
No, postal employees get pissed because of arrogant pricks like you who think you know how everything works.
When you submit a forwarding application, your mail is forwarded for one year. If you put in a second application within the same year, that application is good for one year from the date of the original form you put in. These forms are entered into a computer database by a person, and they have no way to change the amount of time your mail is forwarded. Besides, a forwarding form is a TEMPORARY SOLUTION to your move as a COURTESY to you. You’re supposed to update your address with everyone who mails you letters to avoid this situation. If you would read the back of the form, which I guarantee you didn’t, it would explain this to you.
Secondly, a forwarding application will only forward 1st class mail and 2nd class mail. Therefore, if you have a package sent parcel post (3rd class), it will not be forwarded for free. A 3rd class service rate was paid, not a premium service, so the package is not handled the same way as a priority or first class package. You pay to have it sent via ground instead of air, you have to pay again to have it sent to your new address. Maybe you received a postage due invoice stating to pick the package up that you disregarded?
Lastly, a passport is one of the most important forms of ID one can obtain. Now I know personally some clerks are a little leary of doing them as it’s a pretty big responsibility and they don’t want to mess anything up. So that sucks that they took their time and made sure you would receive it without any delays. God that would piss me off too if someone took a little extra time and effort to make sure it was done properly, what an asshole.
The USPS delivers to every address in the country every day. We’re talking billions of pieces a day. What do you see UPS and FedEx, once a month? I would hope they wouldn’t make a mistake one out of twelve times.
+1 for USPS. I use it everyday to ship domestic and international packages. They haven’t lost a correctly addressed package yet. It’s quick too.
Bummer about the address forwarding problem though. I recently moved and didn’t experience this problem with my mail being forwarded to my new address. Granted I only went from one NY addy to another NY addy, if this makes any difference.
I don’t know if my story was confusing, but somehow my packages, which were addressed to my new house became forwarded to my parent’s home. Like you said, the forwarding should only last one year, plus this was going backwards…
I would have to say 85% of my USPS orders go as planned while 99% of my FedEx go as planned.
Oh and I probably use these services 20+ times per month.
I cant say i’ve had the same experience with the passport thing, I went in prepared like you, stood in line for 5-10, spent like 5-10 with the clerk, received it less than 2 weeks later with thanksgiving passing during that time.
I can’t stand the USPS. They fuck EVERYTHING up. I get all of my utilities done paperless so that I can avoid the USPS and any packages get shipped FedEx or UPS even if it costs more just so that I can avoid the USPS. Whenever I’m forced to use the USPS, something ALWAYS goes wrong. I maybe use the USPS twice a year. I get nothing in the mail. EVER. And that’s the way I like it.
